Had a consult with my RE...and somehow a BFP

I'm in a severe state of shock.  Had a really good consult with an RE yesterday and felt very comfortable with him and was pleased about the options he said might work for us.  After talking, he said we could do an U/S to see if my uterine lining was nice and thin and then proceed with ovulation drugs.

Just a few seconds into the U/S, he said, "I think you'll be happy"  Great!  I thought this was great news and I could be on my merry way and start ovulating again.  I couldn't believe my ears, but he then said "you're pregnant!  See the sac right there and the heartbeat?"  OMG.  My husband and I looked at each other in shock and all I could say was What??!!  What??!!

Because I have no idea when I ovulated (I went to see him because I thought I had STOPPED ovulating!) we are unsure of the age.  Did a blood test at his office yesterday.  He just called and HCG level is 18,500 and progesterone is 23.3.  All good numbers he said and he's guessing about 5.5 weeks along.  Now I go back to him in 10 days to make sure growth and heart rate are developing.  I am beyond shocked and feel like a silly teenager or something.

If anyone has any insight to these numbers, I'd love to hear it.  Besides still not believing that I am even pregnant, I'm now freaked out that everything is okay.

My insurance does not, and many don't.  The initial consult for this RE was $300 out of pocket.  Quite a chunk of change, but my friend paid $500 in another state.

Some insurance covers it and some don't. You need to check with your insurance company to find out, and if they do cover it you need to find out what procedures you need to follow. I needed to go to my obgyn and have her refer me to the RE before my insurance would cover it.

yes, I agree 100% with renny320.  I was 36 when my daughter was conceived and knew we were getting a later start than many, but I would be elated to be 36 all over again!  You should have plenty of hope left...don't give up!

At 36 1/2 it is definitely not near the end yet. I am going to be 38 next month and my RE just called me young and said I have plenty of time. It was nice to hear someone call me young at a time when I was feeling like time was running out for me. So I am going to tell you the same thing he told me shuga - you are still young!!!

Thank you!  I have no idea what my FSH numbers are - never had that tested.  I have conceived twice and as a result have one 2.5 yr. daughter.  I know I can get pregnant, but my history is that I am a "poor ovulater" as he said.

I am 39 and if this pregnancy goes the distance, I will be 40 at the time of birth.
