Any over-the-counter pre-natal vitamin will do.  If you have questions, just ask a pharmacist.  Just be sure you get that folic acid right away.

Its not different in the States its different from doctor to doctor. My Ob didn't prescribe me my vitamins until my third visit (felt like forever) and then I had to stop taking them because they aggrivated my MS. That only happened with this pregnancy though and I found out I was pregnant at my first missed period at 4 weeks. The other pregnancys I didn't find out until somewhere between 12 and 14 weeks (a lot younger). Then I was prescribed them right away.

So, if you cannot get a script over the counter is better than nothing along with a healthy diet. At least this way your folic acid is increased to help prevent spina bifida and other deformities. It is good to think early.

My Dr. told me to start taking pre-natals high in folic acid as well.  I got them over the counter, though perhaps its different in the States?  And as Pamela said, iron and even calcium are good as well.

I would ask your OB for a script for prenatals.  Over the counter prenatals are ok, but prescribed prenatals are much better, and higher in folic acid.  Even though there is iron in prenatals, it couldn't hurt to take a good iron supplement as well!  Good luck TTC!

You don't really need any vitamins if you live a healthy lifestyle. BUT if you want to make sure you are doing good just start taking an over the counter pre-natal as it will give you all that you need prior to conception.
Best wishes!
