Tdap

Hi, did anyone take the Tdap vaccine? Or has been told that they have to?  My Dr told me yesterday that at my next visit I'll have to get 1 because it recommend at this point for pregnant women, so I read up on it but still not sure how safe it is, I say this because I work in the special ed field and I'm 50/50 on weather it's  medicine, generics or the environment that causes some of these disabilities in kids, or I'm I just over thinking it.

Help!!!!!

Ditto what everyone else is saying about vaccines - they are safe and the autism link has been proven absolutely false. There was just an updated study released a few days ago demonstrating many times over that any link was fabricated by that fraud Wakeman. Doing your own research is important but it is VERY important to make sure you are reading info from reputable sources. Having said that, your doctor is the medical professional and wouldn't tell you you have to have something if it wasn't important. Unknown someone who didn't have hers (I think it was just an unfortunate oversight) while pregnant. She got whooping cough and she and the baby very nearly died a few weeks before the due date. It worked out okay - through the skill and hard work of medical professionals - but it was really awful.

I got the Tdap vaccine. I don't believe any of that stuff about vaccinations causing autism or disabilities. The doctor that did the original study on that turned out to be a fraud and the study was retracted. It's good to get the vaccine during pregnancy because it passes antibodies to your baby. Even if you've had a tetanus booster you still can and should get the Tdap because it vaccinates you again pertussis and diphtheria as well.

From what I understood and the research I did ,if you had a reboost for the tetanus shot in the last 5 years you will not need the Tdap ,I had the reboost done 2 years ago so most likely I will not take the Tdap shot as it has same ingredients almost .My husband and sister tho will take the vaccine as they will be the once beside me all the time around the baby .

I had mine early in my pregnancy because of other reasons. I recommend getting it. It's not just for you, but for the baby as well. It's a vaccination for pertusis or whooping cough which is very bad for baby if the baby gets it. Many children have died from this disease. When I go back to the Dr next week, I'm going to ask and make sure weather or not my husband needs to get it too.

First of all, don't ever let your doctor tell you you HAVE to do something. You always have a choice. That being said, it is recommended that you get the tdap vaccine in every pregnancy because it passes antibodies on to your baby that help protect him or her during the first months of life while their immune system is still developing. Vaccines are safe and effective ways of preventing disease. But, you must do what you have concluded is best for you and your baby. I was skeptical about it as well, but did get it with my last pregnancy and will again with this one. Hope that helps some. :)
