What about ginger ale? I had one last night and I couldn't believe how incredibly good it tasted!! I know it's caffeine free, but maybe it wouldn't satisfy that specific craving for Coke. I haven't had soda in years... so I'm fascinated by how much I want it and how good it is. No Coke-specific cravings yet. :)
Hey there...
Just wanted to tell you that as the other ladies have stated above...that drinking a can of soda will not hurt you...the crucial stage is in the beginning from 0-12 weeks...when you have a higher miscarraige rate because of copius amounts of caffiene...
I drink a soda daily...the fizz makes me feel better...also too you can get diet coke zero or diet coke caffiene free..they both are caffiene free ...if you are too worried about indulging ina full soda...
Goodluck!!
Go easy on the Starbucks, Amanda. I've heard that their decaf is stronger than a regular coffee elsewhere, same with Second Cup.
Absolutely love caffeine free Pepsi (tastes like the real stuff) so much we still buy it : )
I love to drink Coke with peanut butter and jelly sandwich.. Yummy... :-)
I asked my dr about this too, since i'm ultra paranoid, I miss my caffine, but was really craving a good ol Dr Pepper! and she said one a day is just fine! (i'm sure more than that is fine if its not a high risk too!) i've broken down a few times and had my dr pepper and popcorn! : ) Yummy! : )
It's funny cuz I NEVER drank Coke or any soda until I got pregnant w/my son 11 years ago. I HAD HAD HAD to have COKE! Back then (had no clue about "stuff") I drank coke everyday, not tons but I did.
Then I didn't NEED it that much after I had him. A few years later I started drinking Coke again & got pregnant #3 mc'd OB said no coke! So I stopped & got pg #4 that was 7+ years ago (she turns 7 today!:) & I had no coke or any type of caffeine til I was 13 weeks prego.....boy, I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited to go thru Carls Jr & get myself a COKE ICEE!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMY!!!!! I LOVE coke when I'm pregnant, its really weird! I think I only had 2 icees a week or so AFTER I was 13 weeks.
Caffeine probably is fine if it's in small amounts, but to me it's one of those things where I stay away from for overall health reasons, have been off it for almost 2 years, cuz if you are prone to cyst (breast or ovarian) caffeine actually can be an issue. & since I had a GIANT cyst that messed up my LIFE, I opt to stay away & NOT take any chances.
W/all that being said, I don't think it'll kill ya! :>
Linn,
I drink sodas too "COKE" I love it. But Heather is correct, put more ice on it as my ob/gyn advise.
Etts
"tasting better than ever" not "tasking"
OK, I'm gonna stop posting now and go and have a coke :-)
...oh and I drink them with lots of ice. Mmmm! I'm getting thirsty now!
Me too, Linn!!! For some reason, coke is tasking better than ever to me right now! I've bought some of the caffein-free ones at home, and I do have one of those once in a while. And when we're eating out, I try to drink water, but sometimes, I just need a coke! I would say I have maybe two or three cokes a week...
:-)
Thanks ladies... i am going to drink coke now... :-))
Have a good weekend...
Linn
Your fine to have some. I still have a cup of coffee every morning. I switched to the half caffeine type. If I am craving a Starbucks later in the day I get the decaf then. In reading up on healthy pregnancy diets and such it seems that they say that 3 caffeinated beverages a day do no harm. I don't know if I would have that much, but a coke sometimes isn't going to hurt anything. As the other ladies said, everything in moderation.
I drink caffeine free diet coke and love it! But I also drink other diet soda's that aren't caffeine free. Even 1 a day is fine.
I agree with Tricia! Moderation is always the key!!!! Someday's I would need a coke in the worst way, so I would have one then I would make sure to increase my water intake that day because coke dehydrates you.
If it is just the flavor you are looking for and not the caffeine pick-me-up then why don't you try caffeine free coke? It taste just like the good stuff!!!!!!
Rachel
Honestly, I don't think even one soda a day is going to be a problem. I drank soda, hot chocolate...pretty much whatever I wanted (except alcohol) during all of my pregnancies. As with most things, moderation is the key. Pregnancy doesn't HAVE to mean that you give up everything you want for nine months.
