Concern, but not ready to give up!

Hello Everyone. This is my first time on this site. I'm always happy to find education, the doctors always seem not to tell you. I inseminated (IUI) on July 10th and got a positive test on Aug. 25th. Have my first pre-natal visit this Wednesday, but on Monday Aug. 10th, I started bleeding with a few clots. After being in the emergency for 6 hours, they said according to the ultrasound, the sac is where is it's supose to be, but there's no fetal pole or heartbeat, but it's still so early in the pregnancy. I then visited my doctor last Wed. 8/12 to do another ultrasound that showed the same thing. The sac is measuring 6w3d at that time, but no fetal pole or heartbeat. They took blood test that day and I went in on Fri. 8/14 to do more blood test to compare the two days. I spoke to my doctor this morning Mon. 8/17 and she said my levels on Wed. were 22k and Fri. were 25k so she's concerned that they're not doubling as they "should".  She suggested I see her this Wed. for my scheduled ultrasound to see if there's a fetal pole or heartbeat yet. If there's not, then she said we need to discuss what to do.

I'm upset because it seems like doctor's are so quick to want a woman to get rid of her baby. I've read that you can still have a normal pregnancy if your hcg levels are starting out slow and sometime a fetal pole and heartbeat can show up between 8-10 weeks of pregnancy. Because I didn't get pregnant like "most" woman, I know more or less when I conceived and not going according to my LMP. They say I'm 7 weeks now, which in actuality, I'm on my 5th week and I said, it may be too early to show a fetal heartbeat. I'm determined to get other opinions!

My wife and I will be contacting our insemination doctor to discuss this with her in hopes that she can do an ultrasound and bloodwork.

Please tell me I'm not going crazy and I'm doing the right thing for our baby!

I'm sorry that you are going through all of this.  I agree with the other posters - there is not harm in waiting a little while longer. I was in a similar predicament almost two years ago when I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum.  I chose to wait until I was sure and rather than taking the cytotec, I miscarried naturally at 10 weeks.

I completely agree w/bny807!
I had to have a DnC due to a missed mc, & to this day I feel that this was not the right choice for me :(
I hope it all works out for you guys, & don't do anything you are not 100% comfortable with!

congrats on your pregnancy! but i am so sorry that your having to go thru this "wait and see" period! We also did many IUI's to get pregnant.. ahd miscarried many times as well.. i had several pregnancies where we had to play the waiting game, from day to day with beta's and/or ultrasounds. i personally believe there is no harm whatsoever in waiting and seeing what will happen.. many many doctors push a D&C or the oral medication to facilitate a miscarriage if it appears to not be developing correctly.. my dr liked the let your body take care of it yourself approach, and i agreed..We had one where the sac was measuring small, and beta's not quite doubling.. they told us at 6 week 3 days it was not viable.. so we waited 2 weeks later after having a lot of pregnancy symptoms and none of a miscarriage, i went bak for an ultrasound just for peace of mind - and the placenta was still growing "on schedule" but the fetus had not grown any.. anyhow it took me over three weeks to wait to miscarry naturally, but there is never any question in my mind  of "what ifs" it was just a slow developer etc... i went to this website called misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com several times in that period
My RE always said.. there is ALWAYS a chance that it might be a successful pregnancy, even when its unlikely..amazing things can happen.. So i say dont give up hope yet.. it really might just be too early - a late implanter or what not.. GOOD LUCK your in my prayers!
