I have the same problem, I'm 7 wks and scared of what I can and cannot eat. Fish is scary to me, but what I read is its safe as long as it's not one known for mercury, so swordfish, mackerel, and Tuna are the biggies. And I'm sad about having to eat my steaks well done. I also enjoy medium rare. Watch your cravings, I think I'm craving must things, that I shouldn't eat.

Thank you your post was very helpful. I was a little surprised to read regarding deli meats but that's not something I eat regardless of pregnancy. I always thought of deli meat as high sodium and gross as they are stored for decades. Regarding fish I guess white fish is ok as long as its cooked and not caned.

Truly appreciate

Also my packet says that "the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends that pregnant women and nursing mothers not eat more than 6 ounces in one week of fish caught in local waters.  Do not eat shark, swordfish, king mackeral, or tilefish because they contain high levels of mercury.  It is okay to eat other kinds of fish from a store or restaurant."  If in doubt ask your doctor.

My doctor's office gave me a pamphlet of instructions included what not to eat, when to call for advice, a phone number to call to talk to an advice nurse, etc.  In regards to meat my pamphlet says to only eat fully cooked meat because meat that is not fully cooked can contain toxoplasmosis that may cause miscarriage and other damage to the baby.  Also avoid meats with nitrates and nitrites which is found in deli meats, hot dogs, salami, and others.

Salmon and white fish should be perfectly fine.  I normally eat my steak medium but now eat it medium well. Watch your cheeses, check labeles and know some Mexican cheeses are not pasteurized so you will need to cut those.

Soft cheese is fine as long as it is pasturized. Un pasturized juice, cheese, etc is not ok.

Steak needs to be well done sorry, eggs needs to be cooked right through and avoid large predatory fish (shark, limit tuna etc) and avoid soft cheeses. Up your fruit and vege and enjoy the ride! I am hanging out for rare venison...
