genetic testing.

I am 37 and 11 weeks today with surprise baby #3. Big brothers are 4 yr and 9 months. My dr had blood drawn for genetic testing (downs syndrome and others) to make sure this baby is healthy and also to determine the sex of baby. I am a little nervous about this test and what it might show. My last pregnancy was horrible. Had to have and emergency c - section at 36 weeks because of ruptured placenta. I now have to wait 3-4 weeks for the results. I am going crazy. Is anyone else going through this. I know no matter what the test shows I love my baby.

I had it done because a cousin of mine had two babies born & die within hours because the babies were missing their 13th chromosome. I'm so glad I did this test! Personally, I would rather know soon if something was wrong instead of constantly question & stress throughout the whole pregnancy or lose my baby 5 hours after birth like my cousin did.
We got our gender results at 13 weeks, but chose not to get excited until our anatomy ultrasound at 19 weeks because this is our first child & we didn't know what to expect, but it was 100% accurate!  That test is amazing & I've had such piece of mind knowing my baby is healthy.

That ***** that your wait is so long. We had our results back the next week. I guess it depends on the specific test you're having but ours was like 99.9% accurate for sex and chromosomal abnormalities.

That is exactly the reason y I opted not to have the tests done.  I declined at my prenatal apt this week and I'm glad I did.  It's really just a #s game and all it does is stress u out on the what ifs. it's already bad enough I have pregnancy insomnia, I don't need genetic testing to also keep me up at night..

The test is based on the baby's dna so the sex should be 100% accurate.  At least that is what I heard.

Thank you. How accurate is the sex? I am not sure I want to know. Although it would make planning a whole lot easier. I don't know if this will be 100% or if I should wait for ultrasound to determine sex.

We just got our results last week. I am 37 and thats what triggered the test. We have two children (boys) already and both are very healthy, we also have no family history of genetic disorders. The wait was still very long!!!  I had some peace through the process because the results weren't going to change anything for us other than to provide time to educate ourselves in relation to any possible defects.

Our results were good and we found out we're having a GIRL!!!

Good luck over the next few weeks.
