VBAC vs. repeat c-section?

Hello all,
I'm looking for opinions/advice about choosing to have another c-section (daughter was born via emergency c-section due to her cord being pinched and heart rate dropping during labor) or trying for VBAC.  I've heard several pros and cons to both.  I know there are risks with both procedures and just want to make the best decision for me and my baby.

I don't feel like I have to prove anything or that I'm missing out by not having a vaginal birth experience but I do want to do what is best.

My Dr. says it is totally up to me and that they basically have a Dr. on call at the hospital 24/7 to babysit those trying for a vbac just in case something goes wrong.

And if I choose a c-section, here in the states they typically schedule them a week before the actual due date.  I've already decided to "schedule" the c-section the day before my due date as I feel that the closer they are to the 40 weeks the better.  Of course, he could decide to come early and then this will all be for not but now I'm wondering if I should just go into labor and then drive to the hospital for the c-section.

Oh, the decisions.
Any advice or input would be helpful.
Thanks,
Kara

Thanks everyone for the feedback and advice.  I really wish I felt strongly one way or another but I just don't.  I don't really care about how he comes out as long as everyone is healthy.

Hopefully as time goes on I will feel better about one than the other and in the meantime will just continue to do research.

Thanks so much!!

Since you are ambivalent, I would suggest a c/s.  There are risks and benefits to both, but the risks in a VBAC are huge. I know because I suffered a uterine rupture during a VBAC attempt.  I am not against VBAC and I completely understand and support a woman's right to choose either method (I still do feel very much that I "missed out" and I can relate to that feeling very well), since you don't feel they way I do/did, I think you are better off scheduling a repeat.

Kara...I wish I knew anything at all about this issue so I could help. I don't, but I do hope things go the way you want them to, and I can't wait to see that beautiful boy!!

there is much research that indicates that a vbac can be much safer than the repeat c section.  there are things though you need to be informed, do as much research as you can.

i wish i had vbac'd with my 2nd, now that im pg with #3 its hard to find a dr that is willing.  one thing to consider if you do go with another c, dont schedule.  let the baby come on its own.  who are they to tell you when your baby is ready? lol

depending on how you feel being in the hospital and away from your other child, it may make an easier decision for you.  i want to be home the next day.  heck that day if they'd let me lol.  congrats, i hope you can get what you want
