Fibroid, Pregnancy

On my horrible 6wk3day scan the results also said that I had a fibroid (it slipped my mind with everything else going on) but from what I've been reading they're not exactly great to have either.  Mine is 5.2cm is this a problem? I know for the last couple of years, I get a lot of back pain that seems  tied to my menstrual cycle. Am I supposed to do something about this fibroid?  If I get pregnant again will it cause problems for me? If I have to have a d & c because I haven't miscarried naturally will this take care of the fibroid at the same time?

Thanks for reading Joanne

Gals,

Thanks for the info on fibroids.  If it's not one thing it's another when being female!

If/When I do m/c I'll have to change my pre-natal appt with my ob (was supposed to be April 9th) back to a follow up appt. so I'll pick her brain then about my fibroid and potential probs / solutions to it.  If / when i do m/c this preg I at least know that its not due to my fibroid so that's good I guess. Although If they are wrong about my blighted ovum and I don't miscarry (there's always hope) then I guess I'll get to worry about how the baby, fibroid and the cyst are all going to fit.....then I'll worry about potential m/c due to the fibroid. Good Grief.

So far no sign of the m/c my bbs are still sore (as ever) and now I feel nauseated.  I could see symptoms decreasing with b/o but surely you wouldn't develop new symptoms even though you're supposed to by miscarrying at any moment???

I'm so sorry you are going through a miscarriage.  After my last m/c, my OB started doing some serious testing.  It turns out I have 2 fibroids, and originally I had thought that might be the reason for my losses.  There is conflicting information out there...some believe it can add to your chance of miscarriage, others believe that is not the case, except in rare circumstances. There are diffferent types, and of course size is a factor as well.  They can remove them fairly easily.  The challenge there is that the removal can leave a lesion in the uterus, and apparantly that can make implantation tougher.  I hope I am not messing this up, I am trying to remember how my OB explained it.  In my case as it isn't causing too much pain (just more cramping during AF), they have opted to leave them alone.  In order to make this determination, I had an HSG and hysteroscopy done.  Every situation is a bit different, but know that fibroids are pretty common in us over 35ers.  Pregnancy can cause them to grow, I think it's because of the increase in progesterone.   I know that if they get too large, most OB's prefer to remove them.  Discuss this with your OB.  I am curious to know what you decided, please keep us posted.

Once again, I am so very sorry you are experiencing a loss, and I wish you well.  Take good care of yourself and take the time you need to heal emotionally.  I will keep you in my thoughts.

Hi I am niran  I had same prob my subserous fibroid is 12 cmx10cm .The same is removed by laprotomy on 27th august 2007. after that I conceived through IVF but the same also miscarried but not naturally as the fetal heartbeat is not there medical termination was needed. Now again I conceived and 35 weeks pregnant with no problems. So i suggest u without any fear u may carry on for removal of fibroid. if u proceeded with the fibroid to conceived the pressure of fibroid is causes miscarriage also any time due to the pressure on uterus. As per my experience dont fear and go ahead for removal of fibroid and then only  plan to conceive. wish u best of luck

When I asked my Doctor if the fibroid is a problem she didn't really seem to focus too much on it but maybe it's because I have more pressing worries right now than about the possible effect of a fibroid on future pregnancies.  The one thing she did say is once we're don ttc i could have a iud inserted that would hopefully shrink the fibroid.

I said if you're talking about the Mirena forget about it.  I had one put in a few years ago (because my cervix had never been stretched by pregnancy insertion was tricky, the ob got it done but man on man did i ever cramp - for a long time.  After 2.0 years I began getting abnormal pap smear results, after two or three of those (every 6 mos) I said take out the Mirena, Mirena came out and no more abnormal results.

Its (the fibroid) is present in the anterior myometrium.  I also have a 2.3 cm left corpus luteus cyst.
