We're playing for the blue team!

by rubyinparadise, Nov 04, 2009 12:16PM
Well, we had our 20w ultrasound this morning, and it was free & clear of any causes for concern, so we're quite happy! Our odds of trisomy 18 were 1:100,000! Our odds of Downs are now 1:2250 or .044, which is a 99.955% chance that he's perfectly fine. We are both leaning towards skipping amnio and assuming he's fine. (The risk of miscarrying from having amnio is somewhere between 1:300 and 1:750 for this particular clinic.)

He weighs 333 grams and is in the 56th percentile for size- so right smack on target. (Yay! No giganto-babies so far!)

His limbs are looking quite long so he might be tall. We'll see. My husband is rather short, but my dad and brother are both over 6' tall. Could go either way! He was kind of doing a plow pose at one point during the exam-- she kept saying he was doing yoga. She said that he's got plenty of room in there right now (so plenty of amnio fluid-- something I was wondering about.)

I also asked her about the cord, and she pointed out that no baby has ever died because of the cord being around their neck, because they don't breathe that way in the womb anyway. 1 in 5 babies are born that way. She said it is really not something worth worrying about at all. That put it all in perspective for me! One more concern to take off the list.

All in all, nothing but good news today! I am breathing a big sigh of relief, and I'm happy that I can now call him "my little man" without any doubt that he really is my little man. ;)

It may seem silly that we are even considering having amnio. I really think he's going to be perfectly fine. I realize the clinic is legally obligated to tell me that it could "still happen" and that amnio is the only way to know for sure. We'd have to decide within the next few days, though, if we want to do it or not.

I'm going to post some of the ultrasound shots in a bit.

Congrats, you deserve all the happiness you can get with your pregnancy.
I'm still waiting for mine, not pregnant again this month.  Getting discouraged, but hey I'll keep trying until I can try no more.  Again, congrats, to you and you're hubby wubby.

Hang in there Tracey, I know it can be hard to keep your chin up at times. There will be hopeful days and discouraged days, for sure. I'm excited that you're responding so well to the Clomid and I really think you will get your BFP before you know it. Sending you tons of baby dust and thinking of you!

Awesome!!

There seems to be some positive energy abound!  First time since the miscarriage (10/19) my husband made a name suggestion.  He knows how to make me feel good!

Can't wait to hear your name ideas!

I'm very happy for you. Baby boys are lovely and sweet. 5 year olds boys are noisy and bouncy. Lots of fun ahead for you.

Have you already found a name to your little man? My 8 year old son, wants his baby brother to be name with Martin Joshua, DH and I are still searching with another name, but we consider my son's suggestions as well.

Hey Etts!

Maybe your little boy is getting "information" and passing it along! ;) Or maybe it's a cartoon character or a friend that he loves? In any case, I absolutely love his name idea! Martin is a favourite of mine, and it was my dear gran's maiden name, but it doesn't work with our surname.

We have about 20 names currently on the list, with a few favourites. I have really loved Henry for years, but a family member AND one of my best friends have named their sons Henry. But it's ok, we'll settle on something by March. We are going to keep the choice secret until it's a done deal and his birth certificate is in print. My sister did this and she was sooooo glad she did.
