two heartbeats one sac a lot smaller than the other

First I just want to thank God for the beautiful blessing of seeing a heartbeat! I went in for my 6w3d us & Dr saw 2 heartbeats but one sac is significantly smaller than the other. Last week he said it was either a vanishing twin or blood clot, but today the heartbeat was present. I'm wondering has anyone experienced this, what should I expect?

Thank you all, it was so funny when we're looking at the us. I asked about the blood clot so the RE moved toward it. At the same time he & the nurse said that clot has a heartbeat...LOL
I was ecstatic. However, with the sac appearing so much smaller I'm prayerful & even one healthy baby is a miracle for us.

Good luck. I was hoping for twins but more than happy with the one. I hope everything comes out ok.

I have't had this experience personally, but have seen it come up here from time to time.  I think in a case like this it is sort of 50/50.  Sounds like one is doing great which is such happy news. The other is a wait and see.  I am going to say an extra prayer for you and hope the little one is a fighter!  (((hugs)))

There is a slight possibility that your twins were conceived at different times. One of my good friends has a fraternal twin sister...but they were conceived over two weeks apart! I had never heard of such a thing...but they were born healthy and are now in their 30's :)

I have seen posts online in the 18-34 pregnancy forums. The case that I read about didn't turn out so well but it is possible that the other sac will continue to grow. That's what they will be checking for at each u/s. as long as it grows things should be just fine <3 I wish you best of luck!!!
