Blighted ovum history/adenomiosis

Hi, I had a blighted ovum last year & had a d&c in September. I then recently was diagnosed with adenomiosis and inflammation-doctor put me on Levaquin & Flagyl for 2 weeks. I then had a follow-up appt a month ago and my doctor told me due to my age, it was very unlikely I would get pregnant again on my own....That I would probably have to use Clomid if I wanted to get pregnant. Well surprise, surprise! I just had a positive test yesterday-have been having symptoms for 4 days too. I am queasy off and on, peeing 18 times a day (not really that much, an exaggeration!), my allergy to my cat is worse (this happened when I was pregnant last year!). My husband did not want to tell anyone, will not get excited until he sees it on the ultrasound..... Is worried it will be an empty sac again..... My doctor told me it is unlikely to occur again. Anyone on here gone through similar experiences?

Hi Erin,
I am 38 and I was 12 weeks pregnant when I found out I had a blight ovum this past October. My husband was CRUSHED.  I had a natural miscarriage at home, and a couple of months later we began trying again. I found out two days before a trip the first week of Feb I was pregnant again.

We went on our trip and I was excited! Since my husband  took the news so hard last time, he was not getting excited at all. Almost to the point where it upset me( I get it now though) The very next day I started spotting and did not stop for the entire trip and even a few days after. It was light spotting but I just assumed I was miscarrying anyways, my husband thought I already did.

We went to the doctors as soon as we got back, they scheduled an ultrasound and we went expecting them to tell us it was over. The ultrasound tech started and there it was a tiny flicker.  We got to see a very strong heartbeat at 5.5 weeks. My husband who had distanced himself from being excited was so happy.  We did not tell anyone except immediate family, and we did not even discuss the baby much.  We just did not want to be that disappointed again.

Since last time it was a blight ovum we did not get to hear a heartbeat, I invested in a fetal doppler.  We have since had another ultrasound and saw the baby using my uterus as a trampoline and I also get to hear his/her heartbeat using the doppler.

Blight ovums are rare, and it is very rare/slim to have two (although not unheard of). I was actually glad I had a blight ovum, and did not have a miscarriage for another reason, because I knew that having two is extremely rare, which gave my current pregnancy a  chance, you know what I mean?

Your husband is acting exactly like my husband acted, I think once you get through the your first trimester you will be able to relax a bit more.  I am 12 weeks tomorrow and still a nervous wreck, but I am trying to enjoy each day as it comes.  At least you are around people that have been there..

Best wishes, and Congrats!!!!

Hi.Congrats on your pregnancy.Fantastic news.
I had a two miscarriages last year and one of them was a blighted ovum also in September.
I was told by my doctor that my chances of having a baby was very slim and it could take me along time to conceive.
I'm 45yrs in a weeks time so I knew my time was running out.....
Well against all odds I got pregnant naturally in Dec 09 and found out on Christmas day I was pregnant.
I have just had an amnio done and all good news.
We are having a baby girl end of August as I'm nearly 18 weeks now.
I know how you feel due to having a blighted ovum and thinking that it could be another one.
I felt the same when I found out I was PG this time.
We didn't share our news to family/friends until I had my first scan at 7 weeks.
Fingers and toes crossed for you that everything will be just fine.
Please let us know how you are doing.
All the best Erina :)
