I got poked in the bone but felt nothing. He just moved to a different spot and that was it. The epidural does not hurt because they first put a small needle to numb you. That is the little pinch you feel. It's like getting an immunization. Nothing. Then you don't feel the epidural.

My anesthesiologist stabbed my bone 6 times and I still ended up feeling everything. It only numbed my legs. And now I have awful pain where the needle was placed and my daughter is 3 months old.

I was the extremely rare case where the anesthesiologist managed to stab me in the bone 4 times before actually getting it in...and I still ended up feeling everything...I don't say this to scare anyone and actually still recommend getting one since like I said mine was a freak case...I just wish I had heard that it's not guaranteed to go smoothly so I could have been a little more mentally prepared...to be honest I think I'm too traumatized from the last time to try it again even though logically I know full blown labor and the crowning is way more painful then getting stabbed in the bone 4 times...I do recommend to eveyone that if you don't feel it equally on both sides have them redo it asap...they will just try to roll you over or pump more drugs in but if it's not in correctly that's only a bandaid...once you hit the last few cm you probably won't be able to hold still for them to redo it so you'll have to just suffer through the pain

I don't recommend having an epidural. I've never had one but I've done lots of research about it. In some cases it's paralysed women...also you won't feel anything during the birth. The nurses will be directing you to push and sometimes they will speed things up not allowing you to stretch out sufficiently before you start pushing again and therfore you can be left with tears etc.

No, it's not as bad as it looks. I've had 3 and all were painless...My advice is Just don't look at the needle before you get it...If you see the needle you may freak out and think of something else while you are getting the shot. It will be over before you know it!

I had it twice with no complications for baby and I. the funny thing is (at least now it is ) was that i got a panic attack before they did the epi...AND  it didnt even hurt lol u don't see the niddle and they numb ur back pretty good :) good luck. Oh and a tip is if u can wait as much as u can like a 6or7 to get ur epi so it doesn't go to baby that much :)

Once your in labour and at a point where your needing help with meds, you really won't give the pain or the needle of the epidural a second thought. I do not remember it hurting at all, I was in so much pain with contractions that a tiny poke from a needle didn't make any difference.
The needle of the epidural is large but you don't feel that, the only thing you would feel is them injecting you with local anaesthetic before had (they do this so you don't feel the bigger needle) and that is just a normal sized needle.

I've had it twice and to me it seemed worse than what it was. I felt a pinch and then relief. Was the best decision i made and I plan on gettn it with my fourth I'm 29w on wed. The needle is big but u won't feel all that the doc will be talkn to u the whole time makn sure ur ok so u Shld be a lil distracted. Everybody has diff. Stories but don't let them discourage u from gettn it. Ppl have to experience things on there own to know if they would do it again. I made that mistake with my first kid let stories scare me into not gettn it and was a big mistake they gave me mess that litereally had me feeln like I was on dope. I couldn't even remember having my son the nxt day! I've had no problems fr the epidural. Good luck in ur choice
