MEDS MEDS AND MORE MEDS

I'm 31 weeks and throughout my pregnancy my doc prescribed me so any MEDS for everything. I take them but i get so scared it's too much for the baby so I take them of course as needed. Has anyone else been prescribed everything. So far I've had Hydrocodine, muscle relaxers, xanax, and morphine. Not all at once but throughout my 31 weeks. Anyone else? ?

I don't take the meds unless i absolutely need it so I've never finished a bottle or needed refills. I have a ton of it left i just pray i get thru this last 2 months without them.

Awww thank you. Yes my doctor said that same exact thing that the meningitis is worse than the meds and my anxiety can do more harm than the Xanax which is only .5mg. Thank you ladies for your comments I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I recently had a very long conversation with my doc about pain meds, mainly narcotics. I was scheduled for hip surgery before I found out I was pregnant. Needless to say I am in severe pain almost every day. On top of it I am getting the most severe and debilitating migraine headaches. In a nutshell, the doc told me narcotics are OK even while pregnant except during the end of your pregnancy. The drugs will not hurt the baby in any way however, the risk comes at the end of your pregnancy because the baby can be born with a dependency to the drugs. I would talk to your doc about alternatives as well. After our conversation I settled on something called tramadol for my hip pain. It is a non narcotic that is meant to treat moderate to severe pain. It makes me much more nauseous than narcotics but there is no risk of dependency for the baby. There are options. Talk to your doc and ask lots of questions.

I would not be super worried. Meningitis is very serious. They would absolutely have to cure this for your safety and the baby. The meningitis is way more dangerous then the medications you have been on... Although I agree do not take unnecessary prescription, just doing some research on the internet ensure it sounds like the best course of action. Keep your head high, make sure you keep yourself healthy and eat well. Best of luck.

I figured it's probably because I'm a bit older too. Wishing you and bub all the best!

I definitely understand.  This is my 3rd baby and I've never ever taken so much meds. I'm older so i figured that's why I'm having so many issues. I just pray throughout this pregnancy my baby girl will be normal and safe because of all of this.

Yeah, very scary. I've been incredibly ill this pregnancy and we never thought we would make it past 24wks. It's very cintrolled in my country what they can give pregnant women and everything has been in small doses over short periods of time with regular growth scans and fetal monitoring, but a lot of the time its been a case of measuring up risks vs benefits and most of the time its been absolutely vital.

Oh wow. That's so scary so I assume docs won't give us anything that would harm our babies obviously.  Wow good luck with your baby sounds like a ton of stuff. I've had an X Ray too for a pick line to be installed and a ct scan. So scary.

Sounds like your doctor is a little wreck less. The DEA is changing laws regarding poor prescribing patterns...this sounds like it could be an example. Controlled substances should be prescribed with discretion, especially to pregnant women

Yep. During this pregnancy I've been on calcium, aspirin, folate, magnesium, vitamin d, thyroxine, labetalol, nifedipine, pariet, tramadol, morphine, diazepam, panadol, an iron infusion, steroid shots for baby's lungs, a shot to stop labour, and 2 rounds of antibiotics. Oh and i also had a general anesthetic and abdominal xray during surgery at 21wks. I hate it but its all been prescribed by my dr and completey necessary to get my baby this far. I had a lot of it for the same complications with my first and its such controlled doses with regular monitoring, he's now a happy healthy 17mth old so I just keep my fingers crossed for this one.

Well at 4 months i got sick with meningitis and was in the hospital for 2 weeks. Then just for any aches and pains he prescribes things. I've been having anxiety issues for the first time in my life and first time taking xanax. I never over do it but it seems like a lot.

Definitely should not be taking xanax very high risk for baby, I stopped taking that prescription when I found out I was pregnant. I have been prescribed hydrocodone and muscle relaxers as well and take them during the pregnancy. No clue on on the morphine
