chest pains

Has anyone went to the er for chest pains? Er Dr did a d dimer test said level was elevated but the results are inconclusive with pregnant women. Asked why he did it then, said its standard to test for a pulmonary embolism. Confused at why it matters if the tests results would be inaccurate anyways??? Are chest pains common whike pregnant? I'm 17 weeks. How worried should I be about a PE? He refused to do a Ct scan due to the radiation, said my vitals were Ok and other blood work was fine. Just worried at why he mentioned a PE to begin with, from what I'm reading its a serious condition.

I went to my ob yesterday, he did a full physical and what I have is costochondritis, he said my oxygen level and the EKG are too good to even consider doing any type of xray and the possibility of me having a PE is the same as the next person, he didn't feel I should worry at all about that. He also said that because I'm not taking all my anxiety and PTSD medications due to me being pregnant my stress Kevel is elevated and the symptoms of panic and anxiety would cause the chest pain to increase. He was adatated that the ER doctor would suggest that to me when my oxygen level and other blood work were so good and I didn't have any type of cough. Still in lots of pain but from the paperwork my doctor gave me that seems to be very common with costochondritis and there's nothing to help with that while pregnant. Glad the baby is safe and I can try and relax a little now :)

It can also be due to the movements of your organs putting pressure on your chest cavity!! I have slight chest pain sometimes mine is mainly anxiety.. But have had all the tests done and apparently I'm healthy.. It is unnerving I know!!

I would definitely call your ob and speak with them because PEs are extremely serious and pregnant women are at risk of getting them because of the extra blood flow. Not to scare you, I'm sure it really is nothing to worry about but regardless if ddimers are typically inconclusive in pregnant women or not, the fact remains it was just that, elevated and inconclusive and should still be looked into. Those are very good tests for blood clots (former phlebotomist) but it's always better to be safe especially when it wasn't completely ruled out. What were the other labs he ran?

Yeah I had my gallbladder removed after my daughter, in my first pregnancy I didn't have any of these issues but that was 10 years ago. They did 2 ekgs on me also, then just said it could be anxiety. Wondering why doctors think its Ok to suggest it could be a serious health problem then dismiss them. I'm really sorry your experiencing pre e are you on bed rest? What did they suggest was the cause for the chest pain?

I did. They did two ECGs, an echocardiogram, and a lung capacity assessment. Turned out to be referred pain from my gallbladder which had to be removed. This is my 2nd pregnancy complicated by preeclamplsia and they said my chest pain was a separate issue.
