went to the er and the drs are baffled. i need some insight

According to my lmp I'm officially 5 weeks along but I've been having persistent painful cramping that landed me in the er tonight. They checked mybhcg level which was 1166 but could not find anything on my transvaginal ultrasound. No sac no hint of anything in my uterus and apparently my levels are high enough that something should have showed up. They are having me see a specialist tomorrow morning because they had no definitive answer. Seems like they were going with possible miscarriage. But I've had no bleeding...not even any spotting. I have 0 pregnancy symptoms...my breasts were a little swollen last week but they seem to be getting back to their normal size. I'm 28...no children and no clue what all of this means. They checked for signs of an ectopic pregnancy as well but didn't find anything leading them to believe that I have a tubal pregnancy. What is going on??? I'm freaking out and I have no idea how I'm going to get any sleep tonight. Its very unsettling when your body confuses several doctors..even the head doctor at the er.

5 weeks is pretty early to see anything. So I'm not surprised they didn't see anything on the ultrasound. A lot of times they can't even find a sac at 5 weeks because it's so tiny so I would see what happens by next week. If it was only an er dr that did the ultrasound and not an ultrasound tech or a new tech that could explain why they didn't see anything also. By next week tho they should certainly be able to see something tho. Maybe not a baby but at least a sac. And yes every pregnancy is different so just because they can find a sac at 5 weeks for some women doesn't mean that's the case for everyone. Try not to worry too much. And it's normal to not have symptoms at this stage. Done have them done done. Again every pregnancy is different so consider yourself blessed to not have symptoms.

Ok...my obgyn who i used to see in maryland before i moved can see me saturday morning and will do bloodwork and another ultrasound to check on whats going on. Her receptionist said that when hcg levels hit 1500 is when something will definitely show on an ultrasound so my 1166 could have been too low to show up. Does this sound correct? Ive gotten a lot of conflicting info and its all confusing me. Im assuming if i am in fact progressing normally i should hit 1500 before saturday so we can hopefully figure out if its a normal pregnancy or not on the ultrasound.

The pain concerned my old obgyn. So she wants to try and at least find something on the ultrasound on saturday
