Baby Shower!

I had my baby shower yesterday. It was great. My SIL did an amazing job on the lady bug cake. I will have pictures up as soon as I get them.  I was told I can't take pictures at my own shower.

I got a ton of gifts! The one thing I wanted the most was the crib. Steve's Mom, Dad, Sister and BIL bought it for us along with a bunch of other items. His aunt told us she would be in Kentucky for work and wasn't going to make the shower. She surprised us and was there and she bought us the mattress along with a bag full of stuff too. His sister had a plaque made with Kaelynn's name in calligraphy and a tiger hand painted by an old asian guy. Since she's being born in the year of the tiger.

I got two car seat stroller travel systems so I'm taking one back and exchanging it for the pack n play. I am very surprised that I didn't get one bottle. I had 3 different types on my registry.  The one thing I thought I would get the most of was clothes. I only got 2 sleepers 3 onsies and 4 outfits which are for 9 and 12 months. I'm glad I have been picking up a few here and there even though BF didn't want me to because we thought we would get a ton.

I spent some time making a spreadsheet in excel last night with each section of items Need, Want, and Have. Even with all the gifts I can't believe how much we still need to buy. I will be set for at least a year on baby bath and body soap. I'm pretty sure these large bottles last a long time and I got 8 of them. I didn't get any lotion though.

My living room looks like a baby tornado hit it. I have no where to store anything.

We got a dresser given to us but it came from a smoker. He didn't smoke in that room where it was stored but the dresser still has a smell to it and I've taken all the drawers out and wiped every inch down with clorox wipes and sprayed it with lysol. It still smells. It's not a cig smoke smell not sure what it is but I'm worried if I put her clothes or other items in it they will all smell too.

If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to remove the smell from this dresser please let me know.

The cake was amazing!  Bottom layer was lemon cake with strawberry filling and lemon frosting. Second layer was white cake with bavarian cream filling and raspberry frosting. the lady bug was chocolate cake I can't remember what frosting. I vacuum sealed the lady bug and froze it for her first birthday.

What a lovely cake!  I am so happy your shower turned out great can't wait to see the pics.  That is wonderful you got a lot of the bigger items that are most expensive.  At least the stuff you need to spend your money on you can get a lot for what you spend.  After my shower I spend about $300 on all of the left over stuff from my registry and got everything.  Also, people you invited that didn't show may still send you something off your registry that happend for about a week after my shower.

That's true. My kids were never interested in the mobiles. I did read that aren't reccomending bumpers anymore but I can't see letting them bang their head on the wood either.

In my opinion the cribs sets are a waste for the amount of money you spend on them. I never used the comforter part as I usually had him swaddled as a newborn and then in the sleep sacks. Also with he bumper my doctor only recommended the breathable bumpers or no bumper at all.If I was buying another set I would purchase lots of sheets and a bumper. As far as the mobile goes, The ones that go with the sets are not that stimulating. Buy one that they can use as they get older.I have smething like this only for a boy. http://www.******.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3623306 Fionn is 20 months now and I took the top off, but he listens to the music as he goes to bed.

I put a bowl of baking soda in each drawer. It's starting to absorb the smell. The dresser still smells and I can't figure out what the smell is. I hope in a few days the smell is gone.

I can not find the bedding set I want under $130 so frustrating that crib bedding is soooo expensive! The mobile is $45 alone. I can't believe the cost of all the added decorations they are so expensive.

This is so exciting! I want to have my shower already!!!!!!!!! dang it LOL...
I love, love the cake. I think it's beautiful and am glad there is a picture of it. I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. And....you got your crib!! Nice!!
Your baby shower then rocked! You got what you needed except for the bottles....but at least you got the crib and the dresser.
By the way...I like Karen's idea. Also, try using pledge. The lemon scent is very good and it makes wood look shinier and newer!!

I'm glad you got everything you needed! Your cake is adorable. I can't wait for my shower. As for the dresser, try potpouri. The bags of dried rose petals and various flowers. I think if you opened the bag and put some in each drawer, the smell would disappear in a few days. I really hate that. My SIL gave me a bunch of baby clothes and I had to wash them 3 times to get all the odor out.
