sharp pains

I'm 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant and this morning I experience very sharp pains on my lower left side.  I'm a little concerned.  Has anyone experience this before.  I did spot a little yesterday, but there was nothing today.

Glad to hear it!  My gas cramps were alleviated by drinking more than 12 glasses of water per day.  Gas is common in pregnancy, and perhaps that is what you've experienced.

I did go in to get bloodwork and an utrasound done.  I saw the sac and yolk, but no heartbeat yet.  I got nervous about that and the doctor told me that most of the time you don't see the heartbeat until after 6 weeks.  She said every was looking good, so that made me happy.  She also went on to tell me that I had a lot of gas that they could see in the u/s.  She thinks that is where the sharp pain is coming from, which makes sense. .

Was the spotting dark blood?  I know with my first pregnancy I had dark spotting and the doctor said that wasn't really something to get worried about.  I also had cramping, and went on to have a perfectly healthy daughter.  I would definitely go see your OB to have things checked out asap.  Any spotting/craping should be checked by an OB, just in case!  But, like I said, my situation worked out just fine!  Also, spotting at your early phase could just be left over implantation bleeding!

have they done an ultrasound yet?  if not then i'd give the doc a call and let them know.. and move up your ultrasound date just to make sure that the pregnancy is in the uterus..especially since you did have spotting too..  otherwise sharp pains and twinges are totally normal! i have them everyday on both sides.. its just your uterus growing and stretching, also a lot of people in pregnancy have cysts.. i have two, so this may be making some of my pains.. but they are totally normal.. also 30% of pregnancies have spotting in them too and are completely fine! : )    keep us updated!! good luck!

I have had many pains with my pregnancy but I just had a u/s yesterday and everything was great.
Try not to worry. let the doctor know about spotting. The pains could be completely harmless.

Last Thursday I was so misreable. My pain got worse all day and by Thursday night I would have swore I was on my way to m/c. I had the worst pains and couldn't stand to be on my feet. But Friday morning I was fine and on Monday the u/s was good. I've just learned to take it a day at a time and until a doctor tells me bad news I'm not going to think every pain is a bad sign.  Keep your head up!!

It sounds like it could be round ligament pain, or with spotting something that your doc should know ASAP.  I've had lots of cramping both during my miscarriage and now with my current pregnancy.  It's frightening, but you must get to the OB so that they can order an HCG beta to see if the levels are within range for your gestation week.  They will also do an u/s to confirm that there is a sac and/or fetal pole (which is what they would expect to see at 5w6d).  Pray and don't fret.  I wish you the best!!
