First time pregnancy and twins

Hello -

I am 42, first time pregnant, went thru IVF, and just found out I am pregnant with twins - 6 1/2 weeks.  I am ecstatic!

Would love to hear your stories from everyone with twins of what the next several months will have in store for me.  Symptoms, weight gain, fetal testing, c-sx vs vaginal delivery, etc.

Thanks!

I was 43 when I had B/G  and 42 when I had B/B
both I gained around 25 pounds

delivered at 36/35 weeks
walked at least 3 miles every day once I was cleared for exercise (after 20 weeks)  with b/b set
rode my stationary bike with second set till 5 days before delivery doc said baby b not getting enough oxygen when I exercise asked me to stay on bed reest till the tuesday he could deliver them
vaginally
breast fed - still breast feeding
(I breast fed both at the same time at night and when we napped but one at a time otherwise)

Congratulations! I too am pregnant with fraternal twin boys. Am actually 30 weeks today and what a milestone every week is! I just keep hoping and praying they stay in there a little longer :-}

I have a question about breast feeding...have any of you gone through this with twins before? I took a class that was very informative, however, I'm thinking about what happens when they're finished eating. Do you put one back in the crib while you burp the other one and vice versa? LOL  I know that sounds funny but I honestly don't know :-}  And if you use a breast pump, when would you pump if you're feeding them every 2 hrs? Ah, being a first time mom is so exciting but there are so many questions that come to mind too.

Any input would be great ladies!  Thank you!

congrats!!! like you my first pregnancy was a twins pregnancy as well! the testing is extensive! for the first 23 weeks i went in once a month for my exams. at 24 weeks i dialated 2 cm and was 50% effaced so i started going in every 2 weeks until 26 weeks when i dialated to 3 cm. i then started going in once a week until 28 weeks when i dialated to 3 1/2 cm i was in twice a week. luckily i didn't go into labor until i was 34 weeks. i was put on bedrest at 24 weeks.

weight gain...yeah weight gain. i gained a lot. lol. i gained about 100 lbs. THANK GOD i've lost most of it! my symptoms weren't all that bad. except for the fatigue. i was SO tired. and the mood swings. i had CRAZY mood swings!!!! at easter i was baking a bunny cake and it exploded in the oven. normally i would've just laughed. what did i do? i sat on the floor, in front of the oven and bawled my eyes out. lol. i laugh now but at that moment it was the most devastating thing in the world to me. lolol.

my ob is VERY anti c section. as am i. i just did NOT want one.he told me as long as baby a (brett michael) was head down i could go vaginal and if baby b (eli james) was breech he could be manually flipped around. luckily they were both head down. when i went into labor, from the time my water broke (11 30 am) until eli was born (8 10 pm) it was about 8 hours and 40 minutes. i DID get the epidural. i was having all of my labor pains in my back and they were excruciating. epidural made it all better. : o)

i didn't go through ivf. i'm just....really fertile. (if dh and i tried again we have 75-80% chance of having twins again...) having twins is REALLY hard but SO SO SO SO rewarding and exciting. i love my lil punkin heads and it's nice knowing they will ALWAYS have a friend. even though my boogers fight constantly they HATE being separated from each other. I honestly don't know what i'd do if i didn't have both of them. they are my heart and soul. : o)

have fun with the pregnancy and enjoy your babies!!!! good luck.

How exciting? I went through IVF and my twins are 7 weeks old. If you have any questions please feel to contact me. I went to full term (38 weeks and 4 days). I have a boy and girl. I want everyone to know you will NOT get any sleep....lol. And feeding/crying at the same time is very challenging. Good Luck with all the trimester. For me, the worst trimester was the last one. Happy Pregnancy!

Congrats! I too went through IVF and transferred 2 embryos. I'm now almost 14 weeks pregnant with twins! I haven't put on weight yet. In fact I lost some early on as I had very very bad cramping starting after egg retrieval which lasted till I was around 6 weeks. Then the nausea set in n I was not eating much. It's starting to ease up a little n I'm eating better. Hope I can gain weight soon! My tummy is growing quite fast though. It's so exciting when I look in the mirror n see a bulge! Lol. Wishing u a smooth pregnancy ahead!

Congrats! I'm almost 19 weeks pregnant with twins :) We went through IVF as well & only transferred one embryo, so it was quite a surprise, but we too are ecstatic :) I started out with very little nausea, never actually got sick (til I did twice in my 2nd trimester). Now I feel nauseous every afternoon/evening, but I read that could be the babies moving. I have an issue with my uterus, so will most likely have a c-section. I've gained 20-something pounds thus far. It's been a wonderful experience & I wish you my best!!! :)

Congratulations on the twins. I am currently 23wks with identical girls. Twins is very exciting and can be worrisome at times as well. I always reccommend the book "What to Expect When Expecting Twins,Triplets, or Quads. It has a lot of good information from what you may feel, to nutrition information. Congrats again!
