cost of reconstruction

Dr Zenn at Duke told me the first step of Diep will cost  sixty thousand.. with tmy insurance paying eighty percent of what they think he should have charged. I  have Mega Life and they do not pay well. They only pay a maximum of two thousand for ambulatory procedures. Would breast reductioin and lift by ambulatory? Would tissue expander placement be ambulatory. How much would that cost... a range? How much for the implant placement. Is it ambulatory as well? Are the risks less with the implant and the latissimis with implants than witht the diep. No one discussed anything with me but diep. It was like.. the plastic surgeon took one liook and said.. You need diep to be happy with the results. They also want their part up front. I have to pay twenty thousand just to get things started because it is considered elective. Probably will end up costing me forty thousand with the nipple replacement and reduction and lift and followup.. Maybe fifty.  I am price shopping as  well as looking for the best or a very good surgeon. I can pay  as long as I feel comfortable with the surgeon and the procedure. Dr. Zenns office said I had to completely pay off  Duke for the mastectomy before they could see me. I even offered to pay him cash, which was not acceptable.  I think MDs are afraid of my insurance. I have excellent credit rating and can pay cash if necessary. I felt as though they did not believe me.

The price of sixty thousand dollars is so far above any cost that I have seen, that I cannot even begin to answer your question. The diep flap is a free flap and there are few people doing that procedure. It is considered to be an excellent method of reconstruction and it does not weaken your stomach as the tram does. We routinely bill insurance companies, 5 or 6 thousand but never receive that. I really cannot realistically address that fee as I do not perform free flaps any longer. The tissue expander and reduction  can be done as an overnight stay. However, I really cannot evaluate you and give you a consult over the net. The back flap and implant is less than the diep in expense, and it has less risk overall than any free flap. Most patients stay in hospital an average of 2 to 3 days with the back flap. It never hurts to get a second opinion when you are considering major surgery. You might consider visiting with another physician to see if you are more comfortable. Finally, it is a state law in Oklahoma that mandates opposite breast surgery to be done with the reconstructed side. It may be also in North Carolina, so that means both procedures are billable to insurance. Usually, nipple reconstruction is not paid for even though it is truly reconstructive in nature. Most doctors will not bill insurance companies for surgeries theyknow they will not get paid for because they then cannot balance bill. Most insurance companies have rules on balance billing, and you should be aware of this when considering what obligations you are taking on. I hope ths helps you some.
