Nose problem- lump, very scared...

Hello. Years ago, I had a skin-tag projection in my nose. I could see this from the
outside and actually removed the skin myself. I know this was terrible to do, but blame
it on being young and careless at the time. Well, I constantly have allergies, and had a
sinus bug a few weeks ago. I typically feel like I have a stuffy nose, or achy nose and
have noticed this more often than normal on the left nostril-the same area where the old
skin thing was. Well, since clearing my nose hasn't really helped much, I decided to
manually feel into my nasal area to see if I had a scab or something going on. Right away
I did remove a bit of dry flat mucous, but didn't feel a scab. However, I felt a fleshy
area or lump at the top of my nasal. Pressing down on my nose, actually feels sore to the
touch because of this growth. I am really worried and am 6 weeks pregnant. Is this normal
or should I go to the ENT immediately. I keep thinking the worst, and wonder if they
could even do anything at this point. Could one possibly have a wart or something benign
in this region? It feels fleshy, hard like a small lump. I tried looking at it with a
mirror, but wasn't sure if I could see anything. One side of my nose looked darker, but I
can't tell if it was just the lighting in the house. Also, an ENT did check my nose 2 yrs
ago and didn't see anything out of the norm, but I think things can grow rapidly at any
time. Also, if it could be benign, is there anything over the counter I can try before
going to the ENT to see if could be cleared? Thanks."

Dear Maxmama77,

If this little scab does not go away, I would recommend that the doctor culture to make sure that it is not a staph infection.  If that is the case, you would need different antibiotics for this area.

I am very sorry that you lost the pregnancy.  There are always reasons for everything we do in life and hopefully there was a good reason for this.

I hope this helps and good luck to you.

Thank you for your reply. I did go to a ENT specialst a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I lost the pregnancy, though. The meds they offered were never taken, but I have been using Neosporin, and will use the prescription this week, as it still is going on. The dr said it looked like an ingrown hair/pimple like issue. He acted as though it was nothing, but I could take a bactrin like med for this. It is still there. If it continues a few more weeks, I think I will go back, as it feels like something is in my nose-it even seems to scab-I will remove the scab. It will go down, back up and down. It still feels like tissue and not a pimple. Thanks again for your help.

Dear Maxmama77,

It is most likely nothing, but I would recommend that you go see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor.  It is hard for me to tell just by reading something what the actual diagnosis or issue is, but that is my recommendation.

Hope this helps,
