Cocerned about infection

I was having a irritating discomfort in the tip of my penis so on 2/17/09 I went to the health department and got checked for chlamydia and gonorrhea through an urine specimen and syphilis through the blood, on 2/24/09 I got those results and they were all negative but I was still having this problem so on 3/1/09 I went to the emergency room to get another urine specimen done to check for a UTI the doctor said they couldn't see anything nor a STD but said maybe something was there that wasn't showing up like trichomonas or urethiritis so he gave me four 250mg azithromycin to take that day which only gave me runny watery bowels and four 500mg metronidazol to take on 3/2/09 both in one time doses and could take tylenol and ibuprofen for pain. The first few days I had to urinate a lot but it is now 3/6/09 and I'm just now starting to feel some relief of my symptoms but there still there. How long if I am infected does it take to completely heal or could my tests been right when they came back negative and this is something else. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

It can take up to a week to feel totally better.  If you aren't better by next week, follow up with a doctor.

If I had trichomonas would four 500mg metronidazole in an one time dose be enough treatment?

how long would it take to completely heal I heard 1 to 2 weeks or more? And was it ok that I masterbated during treatment?

A week, give or take.  No sex for 7 days, and no sex with a previous partner unless they have also been treated at least 7 days prior.

Masturbation is fine.

I heard masterbation would help clear up infection faster is that true or just a myth?

It won't do anything either way.

Oh that's fine.  It was a week after taking it.

If you drink ON it or within a couple days of taking it, you can get very sick.  It won't affect the potency of the meds though.

It is now 3/12/09 so I've just been dealing with just masterbating to keep from having sex even though it's been 7 days but I have noticed that my sperm isn't as thick and that when I do masterbate afterwards I'll pass urine more often that's cloudy yellow (sperm also the same color) and my penis will be tender under the head.

I took the four metronidazoles on 3/2/09, is this maybe because I'm still somewhat in a healing process with the medication still working in my body?

Its possible your body is still healing.  You might also want to increase your water intake.

If after a week you are still experiencing this, follow up with your doctor.

Ok it is now 3/18/09 and I don't really feel any discomfort now but I have the urge to urinate a lot since I increased my water intake could it be from the medicine, increased water intake or something else?

It could be from the water.  I'd talk to your doctor, just in case.  Its not the meds - its been too long for that to be the cause.

I don't know - anxiety maybe?

Check it out with your doctor if you want, but you've been properly medicated.

how could anxiety have anything to do with it?

Anxiety heightens awareness, so you might be paying a lot more attention to your penis, and it also heightens sensations, so what you are feeling might be normal, but your anxiety is making it seem more than it is.

Does that make sense?

yes it does make sense. but why does my penis feel tender and hard in certain spots under the head? I also heard the irritating itch at the tip can be relieved with hydrocortisone cream? Is that true? Sounds like it might make it worse?

That I don't know, and you need to talk to your doctor about the tender and hard spots.

Hydrocortisone can be used for itching, but with your other symptoms, I wouldn't recommend using anything until you get the okay from the doc.

the health department told me that since my chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis tests all came back negative that the sensation could be from an UTI but when I was checked for one the ER doctor said he couldn't see anything could it be because antibiotics were in my system at that time?

Yes, it could be.  I recently had a UTI, and got tested 3 days after starting an antibiotic for something else.  They found trace amounts of bacteria, and said if I hadn't been on the antibiotic, they would have had a better chance to find more, but treated me anyway based on symptoms.

so what kind of treatment do they give for an UTI? can it be treated over the counter? because the health department don't test or treat for that and I don't have insurance :-(

No, you need an antibiotic.  There has to be a dept within the health dept that can see you and treat you.  Call them and ask.
