To grace and everyone - Lymph Node Swelling - Syphalis, Herpes?

by moron1100, Aug 11, 2007 01:21PM
Hello all,

I had sex with a stranger (using a condom) about 5 months ago. I haven't had any symptoms of anything....so sores or whatever. Then, about two weeks ago, I noticed that my groin lymph node on my right side was swollen. It is like 2/3 of an inch wide, not tender at all, and it is soft and movable.

It doesn't really bother me...but I am getting worried maybe I caught Syphilis, Herpes, or HIV. I know all of those include lymph node swelling.

Q1. Could herpes be causing this? I thought initial outbreaks were supposed to happen within a few weeks and that it would be at that point that I would have lymph node swelling. Any thoughts here?

Q2. Same question basically for syphilis...I thought this would have happend a long time ago? Thoughts? I have had no chancres...

Q3.....I assume my risk of HIV was low since I was using a condom...but could this be an early sign of HIV? THoughts?

I would appreciate if anyone could shed light on these questions.

1. that may be one of the symptoms, but this can't be the case here since there are no other symptoms. typically symptoms appear right away within two weeks.

2. i see no chance for syphilis either

3. and even less for hiv.

In my opinion you do not even need std testing, but you could do that to put your mind at ease. All the diseases you mentioned would show up in a blood test by now.

Some other infection may have caused a swollen lymph node, but I doubt that it is any of the ones you are afraid of. Take care.
