Periodic Sleep Problem

I am having a tough time staying asleep.  I go to bed around 10 pm and wake up around 5 am every morning and can not fall back asleep.  From 5 am to 7 am i will wake up every 20 minutes, have dreams, and feel light headed.  I commonly have sinus congestion that comes and goes.  Could this be the problem?  Am I not getting enough oxygen while sleeping?  Any other causes for this type of insomnia?

If you were to get on up at 5am, would you feel rested and last throughout the day? Maybe 7 hours is all you need, but if your sleep is not restful, you may want to be evaluated by a sleep study.

Just a theory, but maybe ur body is getting enough good sleep. Sleeping at 10pm every night gives u a very good rest. Also, how much physical activity do you engage in? If u do exercise, try increasing ur exercise. And if u do not already hav a workout, do get into the habit of one at least 20 min. 3 times a week. But NOT before going to sleep so it doesn't make u hyper. But the physical activity will make u more fatigued, and therefore ur body will need MORE rest and u might sleep all the way through from 10pm to 7am.

The second thing also, try taking an antihistamine to help wit ur sinus congestion and c how that works. Benadryl is wonderful. U go to sleep at 10pm so u wanna take it like 9 or 9:30pm (unless u know exactly how long it takes ti work on u.)

Try it out and let me know how the two ideas work. Good luck and take care!

If you are sleeping 10-5, that means you're getting 7 hrs of sleep which isn't bad.  I'm sure you could google this question and receive better information; but i've had the same thing happen to me before.  First, I'd try to work in a nice walk or a little exercise a few hours prior to bedtime, and I'd stay away from sugar.  Sugar makes you sleep poorly and makes you hungry before you should be because you body is digesting it as you sleep.

If you do have sleep apnea or a problem with oxygen, it's easy enough to solve with oxygen, but the question is for how long does this happen and is it consistent ?
