hi, thanks for the advice, i sleep in a dark room all ready and when i get up in morn i get straight into the day of making coffee for husband and then lunches for him and the kids then i start house work, probley about 2 hours after geting up i am so dam tired iam falling asleep on the couch but as soo as i get up and go to bed and lay down i can not sleep, iam going to give those things a try where can you get them from. sorry could not o to blog and see it did not show the name
Hi, it sounds like you've tried some things to improve your sleep. Here's a few more suggestions: sleep in a dark room, no lights at all even from a night light, first thing in the am get sunlight in your eyes to wake you up, try herbals Valerian, Kava Kava or Sleepessence.

would you have any tips and tricks i am willingto try just about any thing, iam also hoping once i loose a heap of weight it may help me sleep better, as much as i dont want to walk and sometimes dont have the energy i know it the only way that will help my loose the weight, i broke my ankle pretty bad about 3 years ago and i know that twitches at night but i dont realy know weather mey lags move alot i do toss nd turn a bit though, i dont realy know much about sleep apnea
Actually, I was thinking more of the "tips and tricks" that go along with sleep hygiene, but in my non-professional opinion, if you take daily walks and care for 4 children yet can't sleep, something is going on that likely will need a sleep study to identify and treat. Do you have any symptoms of sleep apnea? Or do your legs move a lot when you sleep? Poor sleep can contribute to weight gain. I commend you for continuing to take walks even though you don't feel like it. Sure hope you can work it out to make a sleep study happen.
that is an idea, and no iam not on any med, today i have been so tired all i wanted to do was sleep but still went for my 2 walks, just with 4 children hard to get a sleep study done, just not getting much sleep i get so grumpy and any thing just sets me off. what sort ofnatural remidies are out there to try
I would be concerned about taking any sleep meds, even OTC, if natural means and good sleep hygiene haven't worked. Wouldn't want to maybe mask a problem that needs treatment. If a sleep study determines you have insomnia that is not secondary to another sleep issue needing treatment, then a sleep med seems reasonable. Are you on any meds that this could be a side effect of?
i dont drink much and not very oftern but get more sleep when i do. I have been walking every morn and afternoon about 8.30am and 5 pm for at least 40 mins each time, go for morn walk and just want to sleep after go for afternoon walk and not as tired but by 9pm am falling asleep but as soon as i get in bed i can not sleep, iam trying to loose weight cause at moment iam only 165cm and weigh 125kg. Is there any over the counter med that may help me get a better night sleep
Talk to you Doctor about this. There are many non addicting sleep medications that help a lot (I take Seroquel because it acts quickly and isn't too bad of a hangover the next morning if you take it AS DIRECTED). Good luck to you!
Hi, welcome to the forum, you seem to have insomnia but a milder form. In young to middle aged individuals, sleep maintainance problems tend to be associated with stress, anxiety, or circadian rhythm sleep disorders.
They may also be associated with sleep disorders (eg, sleep apnea, periodic limb movements), medical conditions that cause pain, psychiatric diseases (eg, anxiety, depression), or the use or withdrawal of alcohol, nicotine, or other substances.
The investigations which will help to diagnose the type and cause for insomnia are Polysomnography, Multiple sleep latency test and Actigraphy .
The therapy for this condition includes retaining of normal circadian rhythm by non-pharmacological therapy which includes; Photo therapy, maintenance of sleep hygiene. You need to go for morning exercises and work out which will make you fresh and active all day and tiredness at the end of day will help you to induce sleep naturally.
Pharmacological therapy includes short course of appropriate sedatives and Hypnotics against prescription. Non-benzodiazepines are effective in delayed onset sleep disorder and help to initiate the sleep.
