I bought myself decaf too :) It's just having anxiety issues, then right after i quit smoking I went through a nasty seperation (which is still going on), then I lost my business contract etc but that didn't make me "light 1 up" as it would with most people and I'm little proud of my self for that. :))), but it did make me triple my caffeine intake.
I know it can be bad as well. I started having hypertension that could be from coffee. So you are right it is not the best idea to change 1 habbitt with another but short term caffeine use IMO is OK to replace tobacco.
Now there are people who were told by their doctors not to take any caffeine and they shouldn't, but if they are not allowed caffeine I bet smoking is out of question as well.
just a thought regarding coffee......I started getting palpitations and restless sleep about 10 years ago and I knew that caffeine was responsible, but I couldn't and wouldn't give up coffee so I began mixing my can with decaf. At first it was 3/4 reg. & 1/4 decaf. until my body adjusted (a few weeks, with no caffeine headaches) and now, I am at 50/50 and I don't have the any problems. I could mix it even more, but the rest of my family would surely complain : )
As for smoking & coffee....well they are synonymous.....be careful Sadinnewengland
I actually increased my coffee intake after giving up smoking and now 5 months later I am preparing to reduce caffeine too.
you have to do whatever makes you comfortable : )
Let us know how it's going, we are going to be here for you, good luck!
Thats makes sence, but I really cant give up my coffee in the morning. Thats what gets me going, besides that the caffine headache will be too much. But thanks for the advice, we will see how it goes in the morning.
Kathy is right about the coffee thing. I didn't stop it but just be aware it is a trigger.
Good Luck!!
Terry
You might want to omit the coffee for a few weeks, Try replacing it with juice. That will help you heal.
You are going to have to really, really want this and before you do it, you should read up on what you will be facing and dealing with. Right now your are in a very stressful situation, with your sister, and stress is probably the number 1 reason we light up, so if you really want to quit, then read all of the articles at whyquit.com under the "education" column.
It's not that I doubt your intentions and I do believe that you believe you want to quit, but if you really did/do, then you would get rid of your remaining smokes now, and just do it.
We are going to be here for you, hopefully to help you get through the tough times, but you must bring your desire to : )
