2 Days after TT

Hi everyone, I had TT on May 1st, stayed at the hospital 1 night, now I'm home.  A little bit dizzy, my voice was normal after surgery but today it gets softer and softer. Am I losing my voice after 2 days? I had a low blood calcium the first night, both of my arms were numbed (sp?), both my thumbs went under the palms. Dr. had to order extra dose of calcium into my IV. After 2 doses I was fine. Dr. started me Synthroid 75mcg the day after TT, but today I took 50mcg because this was his prescription pre-op.

I have few questions, now that I'm in front of the monitor, my vision likes blurried a little bit. Is that normal? I'm taking antibiotic 1 a day and calcium 3 times a day.  Dr told me to remove the bandage today and come back for stitches remove on Monday. I don't know if any of you had removed the bandage by yourself. Sound really scary to me. I don't know if I can do it or not. Is there any way to do it and less painful? Help, I really need your help. Forgive me for my typing now, I don't feel like myself anymore at this time. My head was somewhere, it is more than light headed. Is it because of Synthroid?

Just post something for you to know. I'm done with my TT and kind of doing OK here. Bye. Give me some ideas about remove the bandage, I will check back later today.

I found after the stitches were out I was able to drive within a day or so as I had much better range of motion with my neck w/o the tugging and pain that went with it!

Hi, thanks for your inputs. The bandage was just the small one dr. put on before discharged me. I did the bravest thing to pull it out yesterday afternoon. Dr. said I can take shower and I did. I even walked around the block with my husband yesterday. Today I went to see the dr, and he removed the stitches already. I don't know when I will be able to drive. Maybe another week. Thank you all and keep posting. Your post help other a lot.

Would steam from the shower help to loosen the adhesive on the bandage? But, of course, don't get your neck wet.  I was allowed a shower when I got home but no baths.

Glad to hear all has gone well and you're home!!!

The voice getting softer is probably due to the fact you just had a tube down your throat in surgery - insertion or removal will often scratch a bit - it will resolve in time.

Dizziness, light headedness, not feeling like yourself - to be expected, you just had major surgery!!!  Not because of Synthroid.  The Synthroid hasn't even had enough time to work yet - takes 4 - 12 weeks to get into the system and have it's full effect on TSH.  It is an extrememly slow acting hormone.

What kind of bandage do you have?  Is it steri strips?

No matter what type it is you should either wear gloves; or use an alcohol rub on your hands before you remove it to reduce the chance of introducing infection.  Even though you have stitches underneath - the skin has not healed over yet - so until then NO touching the incision with unclean hands!

If steri strips - start by slowing removing each end of the strip that is fartherest from the incision until close to the middle, then do the other side.  Then take each loose flap on each side and gently remove the section over the insicion - this way you don't have to touch the incision itself and there is less pulling on the incision itself.

Wait until you're not feeling dizzy / lightheaded.

Are you finding that you have to sleep sitting up for comfort about the incision?
Best wishes - we are here for you!

I had a partial on 4/13.  Surgery on Friday, bandages off on Saturday, and stitches out on Monday.  I drove myself to the Dr's office.  They said it was fine to drive (in the snow) if my neck wasn't stiff.  It didn't hurt, a little pinch maybe.  If you haven't taken thyroid meds before they can make you feel kind of weird for the first week or so.  I am now 3 weeks post-op and going to Disney World next week.   Had my final Dr's appt. and he said I could resume all normal activity.  I am still a little bit swollen though, but it is reducing weekly.  Hope you feel better as quickly as I did.  My sister has the same surgery and had the same experience.

I dont know about the med questions as I dont take them after my partial.. though I think I need them! but as far as the bandage goes remove lightly.. mine was just sitting there no problem ... try and leave it uncovered it will heal much faster.. try not to freak ot about the incision it is usually pretty large but heals very well! you take care everything will be great.. give your doc a call and mention your symptoms, he will be best to tell you what you can do! god bless ,  have a speedy recovery
