6 yr old girl what to do now?

My daughter just turned 6 yrs old, and was diagnosed with Graves only 1 week after her birthday. She has been undergoing test for over a year now for her symptoms. She also suffers with mirgrane headaches. These are controlled now. She has also has had a rapid heart beat from as long as I can remenber. Just in the past year it became severe enough that the Dr's were concern she has high blood pressure taken (atenelol) not lower BP just heart rate. Now looking back we have notice her eye changes, she wears glasses. Her eyes are getting worse, dark circles, puffy, and they drain Her eyes are open a little bit while she sleeps. She takes, (Zyrtec) for allergies She also has reflux, she takes (Zantec) for that ,lately she has been having really bad stomache pains? Not sure why? Dr says give med one more week then we will go to GI Dr. Stared the (methimazole) just 2 weeks ago. I am glad to find some where to go and hear that other parents are going through the same as we are. She is in K-5 and not making much progress, she has missed several days of school for med. reasons. I struggle every day sending her to school. She only feels good one or two days a week. We "live" in the nurses office. I don't always go pick her up I try to make her stay at school as much as possible. Any advise or suggestions, worried mom HELP!

Thank you all for you thoughts, I will try taking her off of Zyrtec for a while and see if that helps. It is allergy season and she has a low immune system already. However she can not contuine with the stomach pains the way they are.

She goes to have blood drawn in another week, she also just had it done last week so right now every two weeks. Then we are going to go to four weeks, Her levels are 4x what they want them to be. Her heart rate has gotten a little bit slower it doesn't always look like it is going to pop out of her chest. Blood pressure not any reponse.

I have two more girls that I went and had tested (per DR's suggestion) we should hear from that any day now?!?!

Thanks again I needed some where to vent besides to my husband:>

Make sure your Daughter has 4 weekly blood test to start with being on an anti-thyroid med as it is so easy to go from Hyper to Hypo with the ATDS.
A good way of checking her is checking her pulse....slow pulse means meds need decreasing and bloods done.
Poor little Darling.....she has a whole life ahead of her and she cops Graves.
My thoughts are with you.

I would think the stomach pains could be two reasons. One it could be the one of the medications. I was taking Zyrtec for allergies and it would give me stomach pains and I always felt like I was going to have diareah. I stopped taking it and the stomach pains went away. It might be one of her other medications too. I also suffer from migraines but this comes and goes depending on my medications doses. You might want to look into giving her a probiotic. It puts good bacteria back into your intestinal track so you can fight off the bad bacteria that is caused a lot of the times by medications we are taking. I have been to stomach doctors myself and they say it is a good idea to take these everyday. I must say since I do take these I have almost no stomach issues anymore. I can understand how she is feeling between having stomach issues and just being plain tired all the time and the side effects fromt he medicines can be horrible to deal with also. I hope some of this helped. Good luck.
