Is FNA pain normal?

Hello,
Just this morning I had an ultrasound guided FNA on both lobes with nodules.  In spite of two hefty shots of lidocaine, this was quite painful.  I left feeling pretty good, but after a short time, and following lunch, the pain is pretty intense.  Swallowing is very painful, and there is a constant ache deep in my throat.  I assume this is probably normal.  Post FNA instructions did not restrict food or drink.  I must admit I was surprised at the force the doctor needed to get the samples.  Anyway, I'm just wondering if this  was painful for anybody else?

Thanks,
Red

I had it on one side and I felt as though my thyroid was a bit irritated, but it was something I got over quickly...I had the local and I didn't feel the first needle or the second, but after that I felt them all.  It's not a pleasant experience.

Mine was tender for two weeks, I think the doctor was a resident, not too experienced...

I've had two FNA's in the past and after the local wore off the area felt a little bruised, but not painful.  Although I only had one nodule they were looking at.  You might have more bruising then I had as my doctor didn't need to use much force to get the tissue. When I left the hospital they gave me a sheet with some basic info---things to watch for and phones numbers. Did they give you something like that?  If you are concerned I'd call your doctor/hospital/nurse or whoever they said you could call if you there problems.  Sometimes peace of mind is worth the phone call.  Good luck and I hope that everything is fine.
