People who are copper deficient can become toxic with the heavy metal of cadmium, because cadmium resembles copper and the body doesn't know the difference--it just hangs onto whatever metal it can.
Cadmium is a well known cancer-causing metal. When people inhale it, it can cause death right away. When it builds up in the body, it can cause various cancers. Cadmium is involved in the bodies of cigarette smokers, too.
From everything I have read, it is hard for the body to get rid of Cadmium once it is in the body.
I believe I was copper anemic, although it hasn't been definitely confirmed yet. I was getting so tired that there were times that there was nothing I could do to keep my eyes open. I did a hair analysis, and am awaiting the results. I have been eating potatoes as often as I can, munching on almonds and other nuts while at work, and drinking soy milk. Plus I have been taking a multi-vitamin. After I get the results, I imagine my doctor will have his own prescription, but I didn't want to wait.
I have had numerous blood tests done on my thyroid levels, including T3 and T4. I can only tell you that a recent one showed my T3 at 1/10th low. That is what the nurse told me.
I was hyperthyroid after my daughter was born over 13 years ago. It was treated with medication for about a year, and then the doctor recommended radioactive iodine. He didn't warn me of risks to me daughter who was just over a year old. I have alot of anger regarding the RAI and I really don't want to do it again. I believe it could have caused all the problems I am having now. Or possibly I remained slightly hyperthyroid for all these years, and it just kept getting worse, which also concerns me.
Are you currently clinically hyper? What was your FT3 AND FT4. I have graves as well( and possibly hashi). My copper levels were never checked, but I know of another lady who has graves and hashi who has low copper, or maybe too much copper, I can't remember. Have you been taking any supplements. Usually when you are highly sufficient in certain minerals, zinc, magnesium, etc, the other ones tend to take a nose dive, so sometimes it's a balancing act.
thank you everyone for your responses. I thought I had posted a response previously, but I am new to using this forum, and it apparently didn't show up.
I have Grave's disease. My larger concern at this point is that I have learned that I have probably a copper deficiency and cadmium replacing the copper. I am awaiting results. I don't know how long this could have been going on. Does anyone have any information on others who have found a copper deficiency and how to rid our bodies of cadmium?
Hi,
Sorry to hear of your results -- you've gotten great info above!
C~
I agree...your high TPOab indicates you have an autoimmune thyroid disease, but it doesn't tell us which one. TPOab is often elevated in both Hashi's and Graves'. The raw numbers in antibody tests don't mean a lot; you are basically either "positive" or "negative" for antibodies. For those of us positive, results in the thousands are not at all unusual. One of my antibody counts was "greater than 3000".
If you have recent FT3, FT4 and TSH results, please post those as well. Include reference ranges since they vary from lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Have you had a TSI test?
What is your diagnoses. hashi/hypo graves/hyper? There's no treatment for TPO, but for thyroid levels. High TPO just means there is inflammation.
