Aging woman and synthroid medication

Since I cannot get an answer from my doc will ask here. I am a postmenopausel hypothyroid  woman 57 years old, not on any female estrogen progesterone supplementation. Am on synthroid and my dose seems to be decreasing. Was hyper on 100 mcgs of synthroid, now back to 75mcgs of synthroid.I feel really good on this dose. Also take multivitamin mineral, B12, vitamin C.

My question is this, do you think my needing less synthroid is because of level of estrogen dropping as I age?

Did you decide you were hyper and needed less thyroid med based on symptoms or based on your TSH level?   I am just curious because I have found this link to be very interesting.  The author suggests that even though our thyroid hormone levels fall with age, that it is not necessarily a good thing, and that it is a contributor to aging.

When I was 23 had a TT, I was on 200mcg levo for 10yrs, then as I aged I required less. I asked the doctor once and he told me our hormones change as we age so would the dosage of medication as far as thyroid goes. Now I am on 125mcg. I went thru the usual lower as time went on.

Just to affirm...yes, you are probably right!  The endocrine system is all interrelated, so changes in reproductive hormone levels will change thyroid hormone level requirements.  Also, as we age, we require less thyroid hormone.  Getting old ain't for sissies!
