Dessicated thyroid is the thyroid that is made from pig thyroid. Armor was 1 brand (though it's out of favor at the moment due to reformulation quality issues), ERFA (from Canada), Nature Thyroid, and it can also be available from some compounding chemists.
I take the erfa brand and I feel good. Way better than when I took thyroxine (t4 only med).
Some people do better on this and some do fine on just T4 meds, another alternative is taking a T3 and a T4 med.
Thank you for taking the time to writ, I'm trying to figure all this out
I'd just caution you to read up on both sides of the issue. As Sally said, what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The last year has wrought havoc with dessicated. Many people who only do well on dessicated have been scrambling to find their meds during the recent shortage. It's been a mess, and from what I read, it's not over yet.
If anything you read tells you that there is just one med, and it will work for everyone, move on to the next author. There are diehard synthetic supporters and vehement dessicated supporters. They're both wrong.
Many people on this forum are on dessicated, many on T4-only, and many on synthetic T3/T4 combos. You have to find what makes you feel best.
