Again if you having no lumps on the neck, most likely the nodule is 5mm; most doctors can and should only do biopsy if nodule is larger then 1 centimeter [10 mm]; BTW the 5 cm nodule is as larger then golf ball, so it is hard to miss it!!
Really? Good. My doctor is sending me to a throat doctor and told me I needed to have a biopsy wonder why she told me that? I'd rather just watch it if it is nothing but I have been having sore throats and trouble swallowing guess it is nothing related to that. My family has a history of thyroid trouble so thought it may be hypo or hyperthyrodism. I have all the signs of it too.
If the size is 5 mm by 6mm by 4 mm, this nodule does not require treatment; it is only followed up by the ultrasound once year.
The 5 cm nodule would really stick out of the neck; The 5mm nodule would not even be palpable.
My doctor told me it was 5cm large but I got my actual sonogram report today and it is 5 x 6 x 4mm. Is this anything to be alarmed by?
The University of Texas has had "ONE" documented case where the thyroid cancer did spread after the FNA. Although it is "Very" rare it has happened.
Ask your doctor what his plan of treatment is and does it matter what the FNA comes back. In some case the same plan of treatment "surgery" is done no matter what the FNA comes back.
Just my thoughts. Best wishes
"...do a needle biospy incase it is cancer and spreading it..." ~ What I've heard about this is that it's an outdated myth.
Good luck.
I go tomorrow. I just want the thing removed. Has anyone had the needle biopsy done before? My mom had this problem but they removed it first then sent it off for a biopsy.
Well I go tomorrow to another doctor a endocrinologist. People have told me not to let them do a needle biospy incase it is cancer and spreading it has anyone heard this before?
Did the doctor send you for a FNAB to check the nodule?
Considering the size of the nodule, I would recommend to check it first.
