Born without a thyroid

My son was born without a thyroid. He is now eight. He is at school, but is having problems with reading and writing, however , he is very good at maths. Just wondered if anyone out there with this condition suffered with dyslexia.

Hello! My daughter is 10 and born without a thyroid gland also. She is not dyslexic and is an avid reader now in the 4th grade. She is reading on about a sixth grade level. However, she did struggle early on in the first grade with putting it all together with reading. Had to have her pulled out for extensive tuttering on reading skills at school, as her regular class- room teacher had no idea of how to teach a child to read as she had only taught middle school previously. I use to teach first grade, so I know!  Anyhow, my daughter was very bright , but was also very hypothyroid at the time, and cognition was dulled then. She was on syntheticc t4 only then and had lots of symptoms including brain fog. Fast forward to today, better teachers and desiccated thyroid med that has t3 in it. No more hypothyroid issues, brain fog gone and school is a breeze now. She is even doing well with her long division now and multiplication facts. Sometimes things take a little longer for her to get down pat, however, once she gets it down she's got it! Be patient and check that freet3 level at next labs, and get tutoring if needed. God Bless!

Is he on any thyroid medication? I read a study a while back, (knew I should have bookmarked it!) about learning disabilites in children who are hypo or born without a thyroid and undiagnosed for years. I don't recall anything about dyslexia as that is more a mis-wiring of the brain from the eyes and misinterpreting the letters in the brain.
But there is evidence to show lack of thryoid function has an affect on learning. This is more obvious in a child than an adult, but adults who are severely hypo have memory retention issues and are slower at learning new tasks.

Cheers
