Can Hashimotos affect your blood pressure?

I was working out in the yard today picking up sticks, moved some tires tools ect. It was warm today with the sun shining but not hot. I noticed twice that I got kind of dizzy and came into the house to sit and when I looked in the mirror my entire face was beet red like I had a sunburn. It took about a hour for the redness and dizzy spell to pass. Also had some pretty bad swelling in face hands and feet. I could feel them swelling. So I was wondering if Hashi's can affect your blood pressure or if it could be the medications you are on? I take 50 mcg Levothyroxin and am also on 4 mg Dilaudid  and 10 mg  Valium. I took one Dilaudid and my Levothyroxin today. Any one else have these problems or something similar? Thank you.

I have always had low normal bp. I am supposed to be level now and on the correct dosage. I haven't really thought about my bp at all until I was outside. I hate all the thyroid stuff, the symptoms going back and forth from hypo to hyper. I am also dealing with my back so this all gets really confusing for me but I think I need to get a grip on my thyroid then deal with my back because so many of the symptoms are the same for both I don't know which is causing what lol. The only reason I even thought of hbp is my friend suffers from it and I have watched when it was up and her face turned red. She lives close so I will see if I can borrow her cuff for a few days and monitor it. Thanks for thinking of it. I take Valium maybe once a week 5 mg and will try to have the cuff here next time I take it so I can make adjustments with the doctor if I need to. Thanks again for your time and information.

  Best wishes, Sissie

Hypo/hashi actually lowers the blood pressure. Hyper is where yor BP and pulse usually run high. Valium also relaxes you, so it too can lower BP. You should invest in a BP cuff, they are pretty affordable. In fact when my BP dropped I had the dizzy spells and was light headed. It was my first sign(and low bp) that I was headed hyp, after being hyper.

I have been on Dilaudid for 8 years for my back. I have sever nerve damage from 3  herniated disk, had surgery and two years later re- herniated two of the original disk. I have never had any type of reaction from the Dilaudid or Valium. The Valium is for leg and muscle spasms, I tend to have a lot from the nerve damage ( I lost 78% of the feeling from my waist down ). I only took one Dilaudid that morning, about two hours before I went outside. I only take the Valium and Dilaudid as I need it so there is no routine and but  have taken several times since I was diagnosed with Hashi's but never noticed the red face and dizziness before. I was diagnosed with Hashi's in Feb. and my levels are supposed to be fine now I hope.  I am trying to walk my way through hypothyroidism and learn all I can. I did go to Drugs.com and registered and they said that the Dilaudid and Valium can interact if taken together and affect the respiratory system. I had no problems breathing. Thank you for the info on them, I am sure it will come in handy for me. I plan on getting all of my past drug info and adding them on it also. There are a lot of pain pills I am allergic to. I had problems with depression years ago but have been blessed and haven't had problems for a long time, at least  none above the average ups and downs of life. I will go to my doctor and tell him about my symptoms. Thank you very much for your time and information. Best of luck you you also.

Hypothyroid does cause high blood pressure, but I would think your side effects are caused by the Dilaudid and Valium are you taking all this medication at the same time, it could be an interaction, why are you taking the Dilauded and valium, if they are prescribed for depression, then I would stop taking them, your depression is caused by your thyroid, once you get your thyroid balanced, you should have no need for those types of drugs, they can make you dependant and just cause more issues. Go to Drugs.com, they have side effects of all drugs and an interaction checker, you register with them, and it is free, once you enter all the medications you are taking, they have a tracker that tells you interactions of each drug. I would think the combination of drugs is causing your reaction/ Welcome to the forum and Good Luck FTB4
