What causes Low PTH

I've posted here a few times and back again searching for some answers hoping someone might be able to help. I'm now 4 1/2 years post thyroidectomy and have been suffering on and off with severe back, leg, and foot cramps. Had my blood drawn the past couple of years and my intact pth has come back 11, 7 and this last time 4. Calcium is 9.8 and just recently had an ionized calcium done two weeks ago and assuming that it is normal because I haven't heard anything. My Endo said that he will be sending a letter to both me and my pcp on the results.
What I'm wondering is... Is there any other medical conditions related to Low PTH (4) or do I really have hypoparathyroidsm? I do consume alot of milk daily (at least 1/2 gal) My vitamin D is at 32 with my pcp wanting to up the dose to 4000 IU daily. I can't take the vitamin D without it doing a thing to my back. (Hurts) I don't know if it's the kidneys giving me the back pain or what but I stopped taking the vit. D.
Any suggestions would greatly help.
My Endo suggested that I might want to have an MRI of my head and spine suggesting that I may have the early symptoms of Ms. What does a Low PTH have to do with MS?
Thanks

The Endo recently did a cortisol test 8am & 4pm. Is that the test they do for Addison's Disease? I'm assuming that is fine as well. I'm dealing with a part time Endo however...he is so very nice. Best specialist I've dealt with so far. Being that he is part time (2wks on 2wks off) I may have caught him on the end of his 2wk on which would explain why I haven't heard from him yet.

Hi there.
I think you might need to be checked for Addison's Disease. I have been doing a lot of research on this lately.
You and I share the same name!
Cheers

The Endo & pcp believe it's hypoparathyroidism however the regular calcium is 9.8, haven't gotton the ionized back yet which leads me to believe that the ionized is normal as well. The Endo doesn't believe that damage was done after the thyroidectomy because it started happening several months after. The Endo believes possibly it could be an autoimmune deal.
I'm just curious why a persons PTH would be low (4) when everything else seems to be normal ie..Vit D 32 blood calcium 9.8 again...not sure what the ionized is yet.
I do get severe back and both leg cramping, tingeling and the bottom of the feet even want to cramp up every now and then.
I'm just a little stumped! Thats why I'm trying to look for some answers. If I didn't have the cramping in the back, legs and feet I wouldn't even worry about it.

Hi,

what's the range for your calcium tests?  Is it high normal range?  normally low pth would be associated with high calcium.  Hypercalcium, not hypo calcium.

MS has nothing to do with PTH.

MRI may help in ruling things out.

Sorry, can't be of much help here.
