Concerns about thyroid

T3, Total   196
T-4 Free    0.9
TSH, 3rd Generation  3.23

I have seem to have swolen thyroid glands and many sx of thyroid problems.  My Ex Physician stated these are normal ranges and not to be concerned.  Are these tests considered to be in normal ranges.  I am in the process of finding another Physician.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you Laura for your reply.  This is all very confusing to me.  But, I know my body is not functioning right and has'nt since last June 08 after a viral infection but, my ex Dr. states it is anxiety.  Will pursue with endocrindioligist.

The new lab ranges for TSH are .30-3.0 so you are borderline. Your Free T4 is on the low normal side. The total tests are outdated and shouldn't be used anymore. You need to have a Free T3 test done, which shows active hormone level in body. You should also get the antibody tests done for graves and Hashimoto's autoimmune diseases. You can be symptomatic with hashi's before labs will start to show. IF you were to have hashi's, then the tsh should be supressed to .50-1.0 in order to be optimal for ridding of symptoms and for the body to heal. So you see....if you have hashi's and your tsh is 3.23, then you are hypo. It all depends on further testing. You know your body best, and if you feel there is something wrong, then you should have a dr that will listen. Good luck and let us know what you find out. :)
