Saw the endo yesterday. She reviewed all my results since March and concluded that I am undermedicated as I now without doubt have an ongoing underactive thyroid problem. Originally she thought I my episode of thyroiditis would right itself but clearly it has not. She said I definitely need my dose upping probably to 150mg. She is also conducting a full screening of my blood. I get the results at the end of this week. So far my thyroid anti body status has not been stated. SHe did comment that this was an odd way to arrive at an on going hypothyroid problem but there it is. I now feel like I'm getting somewhere.. Thanks for you input.I don' know what the difference is between disorder and disease. Please could you explain.
A thyroid disorder is either hypothyroidism (low) or hyperthyroidism (high).
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (hypo) and Graves' Disease (hyper) are autoimmune diseases that cause hypo and hyper respectively. There are also a coupl eof other types of thyroiditis that are considered "temporary".
Once we know that our thyroids are not functioning properly, then a cause of the dysfunction has to be determined, which is often the autoimmune disease.
Have you had antibody testing to determine the cause of your thyroiditis? Have you been diagnosed with a thyroid disease or disorder? Since the onset of your thyroid problems was just after a fever (was it an upper respiratory infection?), DeQuervain's thyroiditis comes to mind.
"Temporary" thyroiditis can last for months or even a couple of years, and it can become permanent. In the meantime, your medication probably needs to be increased. How are you feeling?
