Confusing Test Results

GHA
I was taking Levoxyl .025 mcg for 6 years for hypothyroidism  diagnosed 6 months after the birth of my 1st child.  A routine blood test on 3/16/07 showed the TSH at .01 mIU/L.  I stopped Levoxyl immediately.

I had an ultrasound that shows left lobe measures 4.4 x 1.5 x 2.9 cm.  A middle pole solid nodule measuring 3.4 x 1.8 x 2.1 cm.  Inferior to the gland, two  hypoechoic areas measuring 0.9 x 0.9 and 1.1 x 0.8 x 0.5 cm.  The right lobe measures 5.1 x 1.6 x 1.9 cm.  Echopatern is heterogeneous.  Calficiations are seen.  The largest measures 3.2 mm.  A hypoechoic lesion is seen posteriorly measuring 6 x 3 x 4 mm and medially measuring 7 x 5 x 3 mm.

I was referred to an endocrinologist and he ordered more tests:

4/3/07  - TSH at .01 mIU/L, T-4 Free at 1.2 ng/dL and T3 Free at 458 pg/dL.

4/9/07  - TSH at .02 mIU/L, T3 total at 208 ng/dL, T-3 Uptake at 31%, T-4 total at 9.8 mcg/dL, Free T4 Index (T7) at 3.0, Thyroid Peroxidase at >1000 IU/mL, Thyroglobulin at 1037 IU/mL.

I am scheduled for a thyroid uptake with scan on 4/23 & 24.  From the research I've done, the high antibodies would indicate hypothyroidism, yet my tests are showing hyperthyroidism.  Is this because of the nodule that may be hot?

Any advice is appreciated.  I haven't been able to post a quetion to the doctor yet.  I will see the endocrinologist again at the end of the month.

Thanks.

Gerry

I know that it seems to be that I'm hyperthyroid but that seems contrary to the elevated antibodies.  Of course, I'm not an expert either.  Also, I'm concerned about how it all relates to the nodule.

Thank you for your reply.  I was finally able to post this on the doctor board.  Hopefully I'll get more information.

Actually, your tests look like you're hyper to me (although it's not like I'm an expert or anything).  The antibodies may indicate Graves Disease.  I think GravesLady would be able to tell you more than I can.
