Cytomel and Insomnia

I have been taking Cytomel since my surgery Dec 20th and I can't sleep!!  I have even taken Tylenol PM the last couple of nights and I haven't gotten more than 3-4 hours sleep a night.  I am exhausted!  I talked to my endo and he told me to stop taking the Cytomel and wait 3 days with no hormone, then start my synthroid on Sunday.  How am I going to feel?  Will I go pretty hypo over the couple of days.  I could really use the sleep, though.

That's the same dosage I was taking, one in the morning, one at 2 (I never could remember at 2, so it was some time in the afternoon).  I had difficulty sleeping initially, but the last 3 days have been nearly impossible, even with sleeping meds (otc tylenol pm).  I hope you don't have the same thing happen to you!!  I hope I'll feel normal soon and you will too!!

Hello

I was started on cytomel 25mcg one tablet twice a day on 12/27/07 and I have noticed that I am starting to have difficulty sleeping at night also!!  Today I took my second tablet at 4 pm so I hope I can fall asleep more easy.  I pray that when you stop taking cytomel you feel (NORMAL) again and I hope that synthroid works for you!  Let me know how you feel after taking synthroid!!!   GOOD LUCK!!!

If only I could lose weight during the time I'm feeling hyper :)

I NEED sleep.  It's good to know that I should feel a lot better after I stop taking this cytomel.  I only took the one dose this morning and I didn't take the second dose.  Hopefully it will work its way out of my system soon!  Thanks!

You will probably feel better when you stop taking the cytomel and start the synthroid.  Taking a break for three days from the cytomel will not make you  go hypo that fast, especially if you start the synthroid.  I was on Cytomel, only, and if anything, went hyper and it was terrible.  After I quit taking it, after a few days, I started to feel a lot better.  I am on synthroid only now and feel better, although I did not have surgery.  I went from hypo to hyper to hypo, again and am now just  trying to level off again.  If you still have a hard time sleeping, insist that your doctor give you meds to help.  If you do not get the proper sleep, you can not feel good.  He should be able to do this for you or sometimes herbal tea helps, too.  Just my thoughts.  Good luck.
