There are reports that selenium also reduces levels of Hashi's antibodies. So whatever reduces the levels of thyroid antibodies apparently will slow down the destruction of the thyroid gland, but will not stop it as long as there are antibodies left to attack the gland.
S, are you still having hypo symptoms? What test results can you share with us, along with their reference ranges, to show your thyroid hormone levels? Have you been taking thyroid meds? If so, what dosage?
Hi,
I have HYPOthyroidism exacerbated by Hashimotos. I was originally prescribed by my naturopath, a Bioceuticals product called Thyroplex which did bring my antibodies count down by more than half in 6 weeks.
I've changed state (I live in Australia) and my new doctor (who also prescribes naturpathic products) has given me a script for Metagenics Thyrobalance. It's evidently quite similar to the Thyroplex. I'm nearly 2 weeks into taking them and am supposed to take them for a 2 month period.
I can't tell you whether is works as well as the Thyroplex or not yet but will post on here after 2 months to let you know the results.
Fingers crossed. At least with the naturopathics I'm not concerned about side effects.

I also just found this:
ThyroCalm is a herbal formulation specifically designed to assist in the management of symptoms associated with excess thyroid activity. This formula contains rehmannia and lemon balm – calming herbs that may help to reduce peripheral conversion of T4 to the more active T3. Combined with these herbs is Prunella vulgaris and Phyllanthus emblica; this mixture of traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic and Western herbs may help patients with symptoms such as heat intolerance, dizziness, palpitations, nervous tension, irritability, insomnia and anxiety.
Could you have been accidentally prescribed the incorrect product?
Good luck anyway.
I know it's not much help, but I am taking thyrobalance for hypOthyroid and it's worked wonders. I'm not sure if they can be taken for hypERthyroid, but have you tried contacting Healthworld (the manufacturers) for more information? I've found they're very helpful when I have had to deal with them.
Be warned! I took a supplement from a wholistic doctor who used to be a medical practitioner...he assured me a thousand times over there would be no problems. I ended up in ER the other night with major neurological problems.
Too many people who totally believe they are helping are in fact making it worse! I suggest you just take normal vitamins etc to keep well.
I am going through much at the moment trying to get my thyroid levels right.
Janie I will tell you, I also have a ton of Metagenics products recommended by my wholistic doctor, and I would advise you NOT to take any of them until you see your other doctor.
I am in Australia too and I do wonder if Metagenics is pushing stuff to make a profit. These cost me a fortune and the ingredients on some like the NeuroCalm, I could have easily have got far cheaper at a health food store. I showed this wholistic doctor my blood tests to show I am no way near menopause and he still insisted I take a product to 'balance out the oestrogen as even though the blood tests say you are ok, you aren't!' He ranted the problems of low oestrogen and I said, Nope, got none of those at all...but he insisted I take the Femi-Nan product. (which I refused)
I'd like to keep in contact with you on this, if you don't mind!
Cheers
from a fellow Aussie!
Hi,
Yeah I'm booked into see another doctor now but haven't seen him yet. I haven't taken any of the tablets either because it said for hypo not hyper.
I have had my thyroid levels monitored for the last few years...
Test-Thyroid Function Test
Results:
Mar '06: TSH: 0.52, FT4: 14
Jun '06: TSH: 0.87, FT4: 14
Nov '07: TSH: 0.33
Nov '07: TSH: 0.44, FT4: 14, FT3: 5.3
Nov '09: TSH: 0.28, FT4: 15
Dec '09: TSH: 0.24, FT4: 15, FT3: 5.1
The normal ranges are: TSH: 0.5-4.5 mIU/L, FT4: 10-20 pmol/L, FT3: 3.5-6.0 pmol/L
I don't understand why my TSH levels are falling then if my FT3 and FT4 levels have remained the same and right in range?
Test-Thyroid Autoantibodies
Results:
Anti-Thyroglobulin Abs: 51 U/mL
Anti-Thyroidal Peroxidase Abs: 27 IU/mL
I think these are both normal because they're both under 60
If you have hypERthyroidism, why would your doctor give you something for hypOthyroidism? If you have hyperthyroidism, your thyroid is already activated and doesn't need anything more...........
What thyroid tests have been run and what are the latest lab results? Please list test name(s), result and lab's reference range........
Hate to say it, but I don't think I trust this doc............you might want to look for another -- quickly.......
