Desperate for help

hi everyone, i will try to keep this short. i am a 26 year old male living at home with my family. i have had severe poor thyroid trouble for 6 years now and really feel like i am living a jail sentence.

these are my symptoms:

-i am always hungry..this is very serious. when describing this to someone they might not understand the graveness of the situation but i'm sure some people here might understand. i eat at least every 3 hours otherwise i get extrememly fatigued and hungry. i need to eat a ton daily just to maintain my weight (6feet 190) otherwise it will dip daily. today i already had a hamburger, 3 bowls of pasta with veggies, 2 apples, cup of blueberries and almonds, and i presently feel like i have not yet eaten anything..its rediculous

-i have a malabsoption to most food..most food doesn't fill me up..brown rice pasta is almost all i eat because it actually leaves me feeling full and content. throughout the day i fill my nutritional needs around the pasta

-chronic fatigue
-poor short term memory and concentration
-rashes on my upper body
-often i experience neck pain
-involuntary gas..this is most likely something you've never heard of before...and its not flatulence and it is why i have no social life at the moment

i recently went to a new family doctor and told him i want a referral to a endocronologist..he said he needs to do some tests first...urine,blood and stool..which i did
results came in..WOW!! what do you know i'm 100% healthy...funny i don't feel that way...so now he doesn't want to refer me since i'm fine..i am going to lose my mind..does it not sound like my symptoms are thryoid related??

because of the gas, contstant hunger and fatigue i'm not working or going to school..i want to get my life back on track but i won't unless i get helped..i want to know since when do doctors feel the desire to not want to help patients?? whats more important a patients symptoms that he/she complains about or some test results that more often than not are not accurate??

this "thyroid" thing is something i discovered this year so its fairly new..throughout the years i've been complaining mostly about a hurt "tummy" and uncontrollable gas..i have had a lot of trouble pinpointing what exactly my troubles are, and where they're originating from...thanks to the internet and tons of time researching i'm more informed than ever..
.i've seen gastrointerologists that have not found much other than inflammation..i've been checked for my thryroid just a couple of times and i'm fairly certain that these were the most general tests performed. i'm hearing lots of people complaining about tests coming back normal when they're still dealing with the pain

i've never heard the words t3, t4, cortisol level, pituitary gland, hyperthyroidism used by any of the doctors i've seen

any input i would appreciate very much thanks

i will make sure to ask for a copy for any further test that they perform on me...

i wonder though, so many people here have shared thier stories about endo experiences with trial and error..this doctor won't give me a pass that one will
so the quesition is, what does it take to get a referral to an endocronologist?

hi Katte

i have been tested for celiac and i don't have it..bread doesn't hurt me at all

i could eat anything i want and it won't upset me very much..lots of food doesn't get absorbed and converted but thats a different issue..

right now i feel like i have to go through some sort of initiation to get into this "club" of endo patients..why am i getting the feeling its going to be a while before i finally see one? sometimes i wonder what planet i'm on with the lackluster work these doctors apply to their work

thank you all for sharing

i read everyones comments and i wish i had more on what could possibly be causing this disorder..the suggestions i've read seem very helpful but i think my problem is far more serious. based on some of the things i've read around here, maybe i need to have my thyroid blasted..i do believe that a few of my symptoms are a 1 in 5000 kind of deal..i need something drastic to be done..i've read about synthroid and i wonder if i'll be taking that one day

as for right now, i have an appointment with a doctor at a clinic this week..my goal is to get him to refer me to a endo..the thing is, is that last year i did come to him with concern about my thryroid and he did some blood work and nobody called me so i guess they found nothing..this could hurt me..i don't know what to do..do i feed him some articles from the internet? do i put on an act that i'm feeling ill so he'll believe me and refer me? doctors these day..you never know what to expect with them

as always i thank everyone for sharing and look foreward to further reading as many comments as possible

I forgot to mention, I started taking VIRGIN COCNUT OIL lately, and I think it is helping curb my appitite some. I would do some research on it.  It is supposed to help many conditions. I try to take 3 tablespoons a day.  I warm up some low fat milk and put about 1 tablespoon in.  You can just eat it out of the jar, but I have trouble doing that.

Good Luck

It comforts me to hear that someone else has this problem, but very sad for anyone out there that has this symptom.  I have never heard of anyone with this problem.

I'm like you, I can eat and eat and I'm still hungry or even if I feel ok after I eat I'm hungry in an hour.  I do eat often but my problem is I do gain weight. I get so weak from hunger that I can't fuction.

My doctor tells me everything is fine also.  He tels me to exercise, but most of the time I'm so weak I can't and if I do I feel terrible afterwards.

I also have hunger and belly problems...though they are going away. Two things have helped.

H. Pylori - This is a virus that lives in the stomach acids and is pretty stubborn. It can cause a lot of problems. Treating this with antibiotics, probiotics, and antacids has helped my stomach issues.

Going gluten free - a gluten free diet has been helpful so far. Gluten intolerance can cause malabsorption (but so can other things).

Greetings

It reminds me of years ago knowing that I had a thyroid problem was later diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome coupled with Candida.
Candida caused my constant hunger pains and craving for all Carbs like Bread, Pasta etc due to the flora not being balanced in my gut I had the severe bloated feeling.  As an O+ bloodgroup person went onto the bloodgroup diet eating only the highly beneficial foods - used a top class Acidophilis taking three times the recommended dosage three times a day.  For the first week I did a coffee enema each day to eliminate the toxins or die off process to help me shift throught the cleaninsg reaction.

It was of great help to me.

Candida thrives on sugar and Carbohydrates and since Carbs convert to sugar in the body you will want to eat more and more of these type of foods.  To kill this off a high protein diet, Candida Diet or the Blood Group Diet may be good.  The book is called "Live Right For Your Type"  I still revert back to it when my symptoms flare up again.

This is what worked for me and you need to find something that you are comfortable with for yourself and wish you best of luck.

thanks so much

that is definately my mentality..no for an answer..i'm not 10 just because a doctor tells me i'm fine doesn't necessesairly mean squat..they make mistakes..and based on my experience with them thats all they do

i will ask for the entire list of testing to be done  because something with me is not right..thanks again

I think thyroid should definitely be checked out, so I would go back and insist that they check your thyroid function, by testing for free T3 and free T4 (FT3 and FT4), not total T3 and total T4.  Don't take no for an answer.  You won't have to request TSH, as they always test for that.

When test results are in, get a copy for reference, and post results and reference ranges here and our many experienced members will be glad to help interpret results.  You should always get a copy of results, and the doctor is required to provide copy upon your request.
