Dizzy in the Shower

I know this is a weird question and I probably will have several for you all, but do any of you who are diagnosed with hyper or hypothyroid get dizzy when you are in the shower? This happens to me all of the time. I still don't have a diagnosis and I am going to see the endo next week and I am trying to sort out all of the weird symptoms I have. Please forgive the goofy inquiry, I just am really wanting to know.

Hi, Im so glad I read that, I get really dizzy in the shower and a number of times have had to sit down and have not been able to get up for a few minutes. I didn't think it would have had anything to do with the fact that I have no thyriod. I must go and get a check-up as it has been a good few months.. Thanks

You're welcome, I hope you find an answer to your symptoms! It took them 3 years to diagnose me, and I was only a kid, so I didn't know any better!

I told my PCP that I refuse to be tested if she wouldn't have the whole cascade performed, plus look into other possible hormone issues. She referred me to an endo that I see next Wed. I am nervous. I hope he finds something. Thanks for your input.

Yes, it is possible to have both types of symptoms. I did before I was diagnosed. I had heart palps, severe shakiness, dizziness, extreme fatigue, cold intolerance, etc. You should get the following tests: TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and the antibodies test (forgot the actual name for that one). Many doctors do not feel it is necessary to test the Free T3 and T4, but those are the best indicators of your thyroid function so INSIST that they test it, then post your results on here.

I have low BP too, so that makes sense, but I seem to have a mix of Hyper and Hypo symptoms. Is that possible? I have both Grave's and Hashi's in my family.

Absolutely. I have Hashi's, and before I was diagnosed, I got dizzy ALL the time, mostly when I'd stand up after sitting a while. I believe low blood pressure is a symptom of hypothyroidism, and the dizziness is caused by this. I would also get dizzy in the shower, and a few times actually fainted, though those times were almost always when I was sick. The doctor told me that what happens is that when you take a hot shower, your blood vessels expand, which lowers your blood pressure, so if you are already having low blood pressure issues, this can cause it to drop so low that you can pass out.
