maybe moved from Hyper to Hypo?

About 7 yrs ago I was diagnosed as hyperthyroid and started taking 1 - 10 mg methomazole daily which within 2 months would bring all my test free T3 T4 and TSH into the normal range and all symptoms would go away.  I tried to discontinue the meds a couple of times after regaining normal status and over a period of 4-5 months I would go back to the hyper test and some symptoms would return.

Since 2011 I have taken the 10 mg once daily everyday and all the test have shown in the normal range until my test last month when Free T3 and T4 were in the correct range  but the TSH 3rd gen jumped to  the high side 8.8?  I haven't noticed any symptoms; no weight change, no activity change or tiredness.

The doctor had me decrease the 10mg to 1/2 a pill each day and will retest in 60 days or so.

Is it probable that my hyperthyroid could possibly go back to a normal range? or even maybe change to hypo? or is there another something I should be concerned about.

I am a healthy 65 yr old male - 180 lbs - 6' height  - no signs of diabetes.  I am very active and still have a fairly high stress life with several businesses.  My BP is in slightly below normal range 110-115/60-65 but I take 2 meds for this amlodipine 10mg and lisinopril 20mg each once daily.  No other meds - except for daily type vitamins.

Looked through all blood test and have no record of a TSI test.

Thank you very much - was not aware I needed one to be sure -
only had one doctor mention it, as if it could be a possibility.

I will visit with my doctor and get one setup.

Again Thank you.

Have you ever been tested for Graves' Disease as a cause of the hyperthyroidism?  The definitive test for that is Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI).

They said I had hyperthyroidism - not sure what would have caused it?  only discovered it when I was in my mid fifties by blood test.  Graves disease was mentioned but no know history in my family?  so not sure what caused it to get out of whack.

The ranges are at the top of the previous list
.27 - 4.2 TSH - .93 - 1.7  free T4 - 2.3 - 4.2  free T3

The test I received in 5/2/14 did not have a TSH 3rd reading shown.  I noticed that and checked it.

Thank you

What was the diagnosed cause for you being hyperthyroid?

We need always be able to compare test results against reference ranges.  So please tell us the ranges shown on the lab reports for those tests.  If always from the same lab, then one set of ranges will suffice.

Also please double check the 5/2/2014 entry.
