Symptoms?

I am a 29 yr old female.  I have two children, last pregnancy was just over a year ago.  I have had the following symptoms that I have dismissed for quite some time until I could no longer ignore them:

extreme exhaustion
irritability (I am usually very patient)
lack of interest in anything (due to exhaustion)
dread getting up and going to work (or anywhere for that matter)
aching muscles and joints
no strength
bad neck pain (on the side of neck that leads to headaches)
irregular and very heavy menstrual cycles (never this way before)
anxiety and trouble sleeping (including aching legs)

My OB listened to me, did a blood test and prescribed birth control to get period back on track.  Called me the next day and indicated my thyroid levels were "really high".  Not knowing what this meant I did not ask about what the level was or anything, I was just happy to hear her say I will prescribe this and you will start feeling better.  She prescribed Levothyroxine - 20mg/day.

I have been reading a lot today on thyroid levels and I just want to make sure this is a good starting point and it could be the right thing.  After reading that it could take months to see affects, at this point I do not want to waste months if it doesn't sound like I have this (I initially kept putting it off as being tired from having a one and two year old).  The thing that confuses me is I went back to my prepregnancy weight naturally with no effort and I have not gained any new weight since (I don't exercise regularly other than running around with the kids) - which from what I read should not be the case.

Appreciate any insight so I know what my next steps should be and/or if I am headed in the right direction.  Thank you.

Hi,

would be interested to know what 'high' was.  Do you have the actual results.  It is a good idea to get these and keep a copy for your records.

Hypothyroid could very well explain your symptoms.  Sounds like you are on the right track.

25 mcg (I'm assuming that's the dose - there is no 20 mcg) is a very good starting dose.

You need to be retested in 6 weeks.  Ask them to test FT3, FT4 and TSH.  They will probably readjust your meds once those results are in.  You are welcome to post your results and get feedback here as well.  Be patient.  These things take time to adjust.  But it is worth it.

Weight is not an issue for everyone with hypo, so don't discount the hypo because of it.

One other thing - my eyes hurt, all of the time, vision is very blurry much of the time (I wear contacts, but they are fine).
