Hi everyone, I'm a 22 year old female and I am looking for help figuring what is causing my symptoms. I have had constant fatigue, weakness, cognitive impairment, low body temp, 20 pound weight gain, and what seems like an inability to lose weight. These are all of course symptoms of hypothyroidism and it really seems like that is my answer. Particularly when you consider my mother was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in her early 30s and I have a cousin on my dad's side who had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism but normal levels of T3, T4, and TSH. I had my thyroid tested when I was 19 because I had gained a lot of weight and my body temp was 96.1. My TSH was 5, making my diagnosis sub-clinical hypothyroidism. My doctor put me on a very low dose of levothyroxine only because my mother demanded it. I didn't really feel bad so I never took my synthetic hormones. When I was 21 (February of last year so a year and a half ago) I had a remission of emetiphobia and started eating differently as a result. I went to the doctor again and they tested my TSH and it was 1.63, well with in normal limits. I had also lost all of the weight that had caused my doctor to be curious about my thyroid. Last summer, I started to have the symptoms listed above. I have also gained that 20 pounds back. In January I decided to try to lose 10 pounds before a wedding I was a brides maid in. I started eating 1500 calories a day and increased my cardio exercise from at least 60 minutes a day to at least 90 minutes a day. I was 156 pounds when I started and I am 155 pounds now, 7 months later. I find this very strange as I am honest with my self about what I am eating and follow nutritional information religiously. I am expecting results from my latest thyroid test on Monday so we will see what the levels are now that I actually feel bad. I am wondering why my TSH dropped so much when I wasn't taking levothyroxine? I am also wondering if there is a link between yeast over growth and thyroid function. I have frequent "yeasty" discharge, diarrhea several days out of the month, and these aweful bloaty stomach aches at night. (These started last summer). I also have chronic urinary tract infections and regularly take Macrobid then 2 weeks later I take a 10 day course of Cipro when the infection comes back. So I really do believe I could have a yeast overgrowth. I also crave sugar and carbs like crazy! and I still eat them despite the fact that I only eat 1500 calories a day. As a result I am always hungry because I eat a lot of empty calories. Any advice about anything would be helpful.
