Wow on the surgery issue. i do not know why he didn't tell me that.I do not have insurance for one.He is an edocrinologist. He doesn't do surgery. But it is 26mm by 15 mmin size
Well i just had my first thyroid bloodwork done at a clinic and looked at by a regular md he says everything came back normal.Yes i will have too watch it and i had no ideal i had the hashis untill we took a look on ultrasound and yes it was also enlarged since you mentioned yours swelling. No he did not put me on meds of any kind.I don't really understand any of it.I thought about seeing a ear nose and throat surgeon to see what he thinks about waiting.Do you consider a on inch nodule small??I have a tiny one on the hashis side.
Once the nodule goes over 2.0 cm, and yours is 2.6 cm, then some surgeons recommend surgery because it becomes too big to biopsy.
You are right at the cusp of waiting another three months or getting surgery.
Unfortunately, since you have Hashi, as your antibody attacks increase, this nodule could grow. Has the doctor suggested thyroid hormone replacement to shrink the nodule?
My nodules, ranging from 1 cm to 8mm, all shrunk on thyroid hormone replacement.
You need to get blood work to determine your FT4 and FT3 levels. If those are anywhere below the half-way mark and you have hypo symptoms - fatigue, constipation, brain fog, dry skin, depression, muscle cramping, hair loss, low sex drive, then maybe request thyroid hormone replacement. This has been shown to reduce the size of nodules.
BTW - My antibody attacks and thyroid swelling stopped after I quit gluten. New research shows a strong link to gluten and Hashimoto's disease. Even though I tested negative for Celiac, I'm still feeling much better on the gf diet.

That's a small nodule and at this time it's best to just keep watch for growth and changes. AS long as you stay faithful in having repeated fna's...you will stay on top of it.
If I had that option, i would have chosen it. Is your thyroid functioning normally???
