The above posting is right....just because a missed period ...it doesnt mean Thyroid.
My youngest is 23 and my eldest 30 this year and I had 5 pregnancies resulting in 3 live born babies.
Each pregnancy test showed Negative lol.
Only through a blood test could the pregnancy be picked up.
Redhead is right in what she posted.
My youngest daughter was actually the same when she fell pregnant with my grandson.
She showed negative in all the urine tests and had a beautiful baby boy ! lol
My Doctor put it down to us both being low in a hormone that is produced when pregnant.
Go for a blood test if you feel there may be a chance you are pregant but if you arent, then dont panic.
Remember too that the MORE you try to get pregnant, the less likely it will happen.
let nature take its course.
Many women miss a period here and there. It is not always to do with the thyroid. It can be due to stress, of many types. Even hoping to be pregnant can delay a period. You would be surprised to learn that many women can even convince them selves they ARE pregnant and have no periods for months! Having said that..many women have periods and have full term pregnancies, not even realising they were pregnant to start with. The human body is not infallible and it is not geared to do the right thing every time.
Whilst many pregnancy tests on the market these days are extremely sensitive and can give you a result fairly soon after a missed period, they again are not infallible. I personally have had 5 pregnancies (too ended in miscarriages) one of my pregnancies did not show I was pregnant till the 6th week. Even sitting at the doctors with their super sensitive test showed negative. As we were talking about something else the straight line of negative turned into a + ...we both looked shocked as I was asking for some anti-inflammatory for my sore knee..As the doctor said, luckily I asked for the test as I was pretty sure I was pregnant but my home tests kept saying negative, she would not now give me the anti-inflammatory as it would have affected the growing fetus!
Often the other reason you can miss a period and have a negative test is that you are in fact, pregnant, the fertilised egg often fails to generate the placental tissue (which does not happen immediately but untill around the 4th week...meaning 2 weeks after you should have had a period) and it then passes as a late period. This is more common than most people realise.
So it may or may not be due to your medication, hard to know 100%. I really don't think it is PCOS as you would have had other symptoms and signs by now. It doesn't just normally appear out of the blue like that.
Well, I hope that has helped a little.
Cheers
Being someone who has PCOS I would say that one missed period is not an indication of it. I've had irregular periods as far back as I can remember. Even the irregularities are irregular... for instance when I am extremely hypo I can miss periods altogether for months at a time or I can suddenly have very short cycles for months and months. You would think that if I'm very hypo I would either miss periods or have too many but for some reason it reacts both ways. For me the only time I have regular periods (35-40 day cycles for me) is when I am properly treated on thyroid medication. Even then though I don't ovulate very often if at all and have other signs such as LH FSH ratio is off and my progesterone is low. A simple missed period is not enough to diagnose you with PCOS. In fact, it could definitely be the change to your thyroid medication. I would suggest finding a doctor who understands the difference.
Hi Laura.
All he said was that my thyroid is perfect...range 2. He also said that my sugar was very slightly high ( not the average sugar just the glucose ) - but that he did the average in March and it was fine so I know this value couldn't be much different. I told him that the night before i ate alot of carbs...which may have elevated my glucose a bit since i went first thing the next morning. Which would explain why my glucose was slighty off. But everything else is normal...it has always been normal. I dont have numbers off hand other than my thyroid being at 2.
What were your most recent lab results with ranges? We need to take a look at those before we can comment on your thyroid.
Your doctor seems to be treating by symptoms which is a good thing.....he is also looking at other things that co-incide with the endocrine system.
Rule of thumb is that you Always test between 6-8 weeks after increases, unless you are on natural thyroid hormone like Armour.....then you blood test every 4 weeks.
