Oh boy! don't get me started! Spent over 15 years misdiagnosed, on 8 times the recommended dose for anti-depressants, felt worse than a lump of lead, a big bag of pooooooo sitting in the heat...(actually, I must ask a bag of pooooo sitting in the heat if they felt like me?! LOL!) I am still nearly at the 3 year mark after my partial and I STILL feel like a bag of poooooo! Doctor kept forcing me to take anti-depressants to which I politely said, Hey! It's Prozac you gave me, you moron! Now I have worse problems! Sheeeeeesh!
I am at Round 4,576 in seeing yet another specialist...(now HE thinks I have sleep apnoea...which I do! BUT still not treating my thyroid condition!!!! >tearing out what little hair I have here!< )
So YES! I can relate 100% Australia is not much better than UK in treating us!
Cheers
From what I've read, part of the problem in the UK is that doctors in the Nat'l Health System are directed and browbeaten to comply with general directions to not treat patients for thyroid problems unless their TSH is higher than 5. And even that is considered subclinical, maybe not needing medication. In addition, there is the "Immaculate TSH Belief" that seems to preclude the need for any other testing. One prominent Doctor even went so far as to suggest that patients whose test results fell within the range, but still complained of symptoms, must be suffering from "somatoform disorders". In other words, they were just psychosomatic. The end result is a multitude of unhappy patients like yourself. You can read all about this on this link.

I have no idea how to go about doing it there, but you need to find a good thyroid doctor that will agree to treat your symptoms by testing and adjusting the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones, FT3 and FT4 (not total T3 and total T4), with whatever medication is necessary to alleviate symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Good luck in your search. Please let us know how it goes.
I can relate!!! It's absolutely inexcusable, I'm thinking they have no clue about treating thyroid and don't care to find out.hence, won't listen and help, cause they don't know how. And WE pay for this.I hope you find the help you need, I agree we're exausted to begin with and then ahve to fight to be heard and treated properly....pitiful, lame, idiotic
