Going off thyroid meds

I want to try treating my adrenals by myself since no australian doctor knows how to treat a person with adrenal fatigue and hypo and they don't know that taking thyroid meds makes adrenals worse. But don't know how to do it. I know I have to stop taking thyroid meds but how long for?? I'm taking 6mg of HC now, how much do I increase it by each day?? and how quickly do you decrease and by how much???

I believe I also need aldoesterone but getting a doctor/endo to prescribe it is like pulling teeth. My skin colour got darker (a nice tan all over, including areas where there is no sun exposure), sure looks nice..but it's not normal!!!! I have lost a lot of weight....at first I was really happy and thought GREAT!!!!! YAY!!!!" I have no thyroid and I'm skinny..it's a MIRACLE!!!!" but now realised that it's also not normal and due to adrenal fatigue which doctos ignore... This by the way, it's the only good thing about having adrenal fatigue. I feel so tired I can't work anymore and I can't be bothered doing anything or going anywhere...

Urine test showed that I was under range for sodium even though I drink celtic salt with water!! my doctor doesn't believe me of course..... anyway, I am taking more salt now. My growth hormone is way high... don't know what that means.

If someone could help that would be great. Thanks.

I'm already taking cortisone, but only 6mg. I think I need more. But I have read in many websites that you need to treat adrenals first and then thyroid because thyroid meds make adrenal fatigue worse.

I just don't know how long for etc.

Hi,

you need to see an endocrinologist and they need to test pituitary function (complete testing of all the hormones that should be produced). Look up pan hypopituitary and you should see something.

However, the high growth hormone would point to a pituitary adenoma of some sort. Have you had pituitary MRI.  If not,  you should have.

The high salt intake is also typical.

You would need cortisone to treat the adrenals.  But this is not something to mess around with  yourself. You need proper testing and monitoring.

Please don't stop taking your thryoid meds it is very dangerous not to take meds if you don't have a thyroid.

There is a hypopituitary group on yahoo groups you may want to look up. Some of their members live in Austrlaia and can probably advise you regarding finding a knowledgable ddoctor.
